bro bros.....Im thinking about doing a 6-month long Cyber Security Boot camp in downtown Chicago culminating in testing for a Security+ cert. They have job placement tools as well. All the reviews have been stellar on Compare The Best Coding Bootcamps of 2019 too.....All-in it's about a $12K loan. What do u brehs think?

Meh, I am so anti boot camps due to the price tags man. For each certs I got, I illegally downloaded the book, used udemy or acloud guru or linux academy...to study. Those 12k are scams....imo. You dont a bootcamp to get the security plus. All the info is online.

Sec+ isn't getting you ready for cyber security to be honest.
You are better off self studying a Sec+ book and running some vms and actually understanding the tools used in cyber security.
That said if you don't have a criminal record getting some IT exp and a sec+ can get you into the government and help you get a security clearance, US govt begging for cyber security professionals

No way I would spend 12 racks on a course that will be obsolete in less than 2 years. When I want training I just switch jobs. Most companies will send new employees off to training to get them up to speed quickly. And you can probably find all that information online for free.

I don't have to even look at the course to see they are scamming folks. 12k and all you come away with is a Security+. SANS courses don't even cost that much and are much more valuable. Self study instead.

i hear where u're coming from, but I am worried about the lack of hands-on experience. I dont really know the true in-and-outs of too much and this course is really hands on. 10 hours per week in class and 10-20 hours outside of class. They help with a portfolio and they have a career services dept to get you ready to interview and align u with Chicago offices. :ld: I could take out an education loan so I would not come out of pocket until Im done (and hopefully employed).

I'm torn.
I have the official study guide and an online course hosted on https://icollege.co but I cant say that a boot camp wouldnt motivate me more than just a book and an online course (+ of course Professor Messer). :snoop:

Good looks on putting e onto Cyber Security Courses | SANS Institute tho. I'm somewhat thinking about not doing it.

$12k is stupid high. I know people that got Linux certs through a course and only paid $4500. They came out with jobs paying $80k+

Bro, a Linux Academy subscription will cost you 300 to 500. They have all the hands on tool you will need to learn devops, security plus, cissp etc. etc. Boot camps are scam.

Same with coding, you can learn it on your own then build skills on the job.

I wouldn't say all bootcamps are a scam but one thst charges 12k for an entry level cert definitely raises red flags for me. But yes there are plenty of cheapers alternatives even if you still feel like you need a classroom environment. Check your local colleges. I know some of the ones near me have some that a far cheaper than the 12k you were going to spend.

The basics mainly...we do web development so I dont need a DBA.....in my dept you have to be well rounded if you want to fit in...Im one of the few guys that do SQL, Javascript/jquery/ Java and Hadoop development....so I look for people that are interested in coming up to speed if they are weak in some areas

We got some folks that say they are not interested in some stuff...I tell the recruiter "pass"
im about to join a 12-week SQL camp. Black dude runs it. :win:

What "hands on" experience do you get with the S+? It's completely theory based, you just memorize stuff...

When you get past the S+ and get to higher certs you'll learn more about the hands on programs you need like Wireshark TCPDUMP and so forth.

S+? Just buying a book, load it onto your kindle, search for 'practice questions" and you go?

Recruiter tried to lowball me told that bytch if the numbers ain't hitting don't email me :sas2:

Emailed me this morning with higher rates :sas1:
Yep. I tell recruiters all the time to give me the numbers because I'm tired of wasting my time when they are trying to offer me a laughable salary.

What should I ask for once I get this CCNA? I will have the CCNA and S+. I have no networking experience at corporations but 2 years in a SOC but a very entry level position.

Salary wise? and what jobs should I apply for? I'm think network support or something along those lines.
