Jesus - are all I.T interviews this in-depth :patrice:

I am not too sure but I will see. Some companies like to do all panel interviews etc. Plus it's for a senior position. They reached out to me on Linkedin. Hopefully it all goes well and I get cause I am trying to leave my current company. With my certs and the experience I get, I can easily level up to 6 figures within 6 months at another company.

About to move from Florida to Massachusetts to almost make 6 figgas.

I've lived up North when I was younger but that winter ain't no joke :sadcam:

But I'm too old to be working help desk and hopefully I can learn some skills and get the rest of my degree paid for

Im trying like hell to talk my wife into moving out of Massachusetts because of the cost of living, I couldn’t imagine living there nor would I want to. Working from home Id rather live down south or something and get a house literally 5x the size for the same price. 1br condos in Boston are in the millions, its insane

Good luck breh

Yeah I know, there are other reasons for moving there as well, but I hope I can dip in and dip out.

Believe me, I wish I could find something down here. Just gotta never eat out and cook every day to keep costs down...

That's interesting. I'm in New York and am trying to move down south. Either Miami, Tampa, or Atlanta. The jobs are plentiful in New York but it's hyper competitive. Getting a job up here is like winning the lottery (similar odds).

Nah my G, Its not industry standard but moreso case by case. All my helpdesk interviews have been 1 on 1.

When I 1st pulled up to the Hewlett Packard facility, I had ideas about the interview thinking it was going to be a panel of people. Why wouldnt I? I had to walk through two three turnstiles and be escorted and buzzed in before making it to the front desk lol.

Once I got in though, it was smooth sailing. Ended up having a 1 on 1 interview with this laid back but eccentric type dude who asked me 2 technical questions related to troubleshooting and then the last question was

"How many Balloons can fit in this room":what:

Other than that the interview was maybe 10 minutes or shorter but it was :ahh:

I've had panel interviews in the past for warehouse jobs but the worst experience was for a mutherfukking janitor job 10 years ago; not 1, not 3, not 5 but nine fukking people staring across a oakwood table that looked like they stole that shyt from the hall of Valhalla. They deadass poker-facing me across this big ass God-table and hitting me with a brarrage of the typical "Give an example a time when...." type of questions. Usually theres about 5 of those type of questions max, but these muthafukkas had at least 12..

Mid- ways through the interview im like.:martin: and I just cut one of the interviewers off and asked them straight up "What are your expectations for this job, what do you hope to gain from this interview and what is the salary range"

I could see the wave of :picard::ohhh::dwillhuh::merchant: moving through each interviewer on the panel but I was in :demonic: mode and didnt give a fukk. . One of the interviewers responded " The starting salary is 9.43 an hour":youngsabo: like she thought this was gonna impress me or that it was the most money I have ever been offered.

Before I even realized what I was doing I reflexively shot up from the table voiced my disappointment in them wasting my time and thinking its ok to put people through all that for a janitor position and bounced .

fast foraward, 5 months later, they called me with a job offer anyway. I just :heh:and hung up.

Completely irrelevant to your question I know, but I had to get that one off lol.

BTW, what certs do u have?

Just an A+

I know it sounds like Im stacked with certs and got it poppin with my situation but honestly its due to my location and my immediate network.

Whether you got 1 cert , 6 certs or 20 certs, location and networking will always be an important factor. Please dont sleep on this aspect because Im speaking from recent experience.

Yes, what people like B Dizzle, Havoc etc were saying is %100 truth; There's so much money to be made in IT

The quicker you get your certs, skills and experience, The sooner you'll get to to all them nice salaries that people in here be talking about.

But again, location and networking is extremely important.

Reason is...

Networking is how you find out about the super lucrative opportunities you wont see on Indeed.com, Careerbuilder or Dice. Networking is like having a direct pipline to jobs without all the BS that comes with online jobhunting. When you've got a list of solid connects in the field, They'll constantly suggest jobs to you and its up to you if you wanna pursue it or not. Even if love your current job, Its feel good to just have options especially in the event things go south at your job, you can already have another one locked and loaded in the event you choose to jump ship.

Its more to it than just having the plug to the good jobs, but you can also find out about discounts on certs and career training to boost your resume. You can find out about the emerging technologies and growing trends so you can hop on it early and get training and certs for cheap before it really starts to boom. :ets say the next hot cert on the infrastructure side of IT is through vendor XYZ offering the cert
DooDooBiscuits +, you can be ahead of the curve and have an in demand skillset that few have because they didnt think DooDoo Biscuits + was gonna take the game over, There goes your 6 figures. Adopt an investors mindset; always be studying and increasing your skillset. Yes, you should get all the neccessary certs out the way 1st so you can fast track out of entry level (A+, Sec+, Net+,CCNET/CCNA, MCSA).
But back to my point networkin is so crucial, but one thing ive come to notice is that in alot of cases, the best jobs will tend to be wherever you're not at which leads me to my next point...

Location, Location, Location. Your willingness to relocate and go get that bag will be the a big factor in your success

does anyone in here have an AWS professional cert? i'm wondering how much more difficult they are vs. associate level certs.

i passed my solutions architect associate and developer associate this week and am unsure whether to pursue the sysops associate next, or just prep for the professional level certs.
