Nothing worse than working around a bunch of idiots. I lost a lot of respect for one of our leads the other day when during lab training, this mother fukker was typing like 5 WPM!! I swear this dude was looking at the keyboard and typing with 2 fingers.

Dude is real smart when he talks, but cannot type and has zero technical knowledge. How he has a masters degree in CIS is beyond me.
How is he smart but zero technical knowledge? That's sort of a clash especially when he has CIS which requires obtaining PRACTICAL knowledge of I.T. skills.

Bruh. I'm just as lost as you. When he talks you think he know's what he's talking about. But now that I think about it. It's always been high level talk. Maybe he's just good at project management or something . Still don't excuse somebody typing that damn slow. I was his lab partner for a testing within visual studio class.

He reminds me of my cousin who has his CISSP but he passed cause he's a good test taker. Some people are good shyt talkers. For example, I've been brushing up on electronics and electrical engineering topics.

I wrote this little program in C about 2 weeks ago:

In those 2 weeks, I learned a shyt ton about electronics and the engineering principles. I could probably hold a conversation with you that made you think I knew more about the topic than I actually do..lol So you won't see me applying to any jobs that deal with this

because he types slow breh? What do you do? I see you're from the Baltimore area, I'm getting my degree in IT here.

LOL.. It wasn't just that he just types slow, but that was the first thing I noticed that was off. If you knew how many emails we send back and forth a day and how many reports we write up a week, you would have a better understanding. Its like come on man, this guy was literally typing like "B.......................E.............................T.........................T.......E........R". I don't expect people to be a rocket scientist, but if you have a "Masters" degree in something computer related. Yes I expect you to have some typing skills. Its like somebody having STEM related degree, but have problems doing addition problems. shyt find a free typing software on the net.

I'm a developer( hence my attitude ):laff::laff::laff::laff:.

Since you are in Baltimore, once you obtain the degree. Start looking in the DC and VA area for IT jobs. If you are lucky enough to get a security clearance , you will always eat out in this area.

I been bullshytting in the powershell tip. :wow:

Usually I just look up powershell commands on google whenever I want to do something simple (like change permissions on a mailbox) but I just haven't gotten around to learning it in-depth.

Powershell is the shyt breh. Learn it well and you'll never be unemployed.

Start writing random sxriots. Before you know it you'll be a beast.

shyt, I have a record. Thankfully I was already employed at my current job when the *incident* happen. But you'll be fine. 90% of my department is made up of Indians and none of them were born here. We did have to let one guy go because his VISA or something was about to expire, but he picked up a job in Columbia in a matter of days. Just be prepared to travel and be stuck in traffic in this area. I was traveling back and forth between Baltimore and Bethesda for 8 long years. But the grinding paid off because I can finally afford to live in this area.

Tips(If you aren't in IT yet)

*Prepare for the ups and downs that come with not having much experience. My first tech job was replacing motherboards for Baltimore County schools, I felt like the man and thought it was clear sailing from there. Contract only lasted 1 month and I was back to working in a warehouse placing parts in tool kits:snoop:. I was fukking depressed, but kept studying for certs.

* Apply to temp agencies also. The job i'm at now I got through a temp agency. 9 years ago.

Matter of fact, Since you are from or Live in Bmore. PM me breh. I'll tell you where I work( I don't trust the demons on here...lol ). I can't get you a job here, unless you are already an experienced .NET developer, but shyt our Help Desk tends to do hiring throughout the year and the starting pay is around 40K - 45K( might be more now ).

I have one year of IT experience :mjlol: Although that was from an IT job in High school :francis: I'll deff PM you breh even tho I got atleast one or two years left and I want to get into this IT stuff. I'll even take a pay cut so I can get sponsored for a work visa.

I've realized that having Cisco certs in this area trumps everything.

Yeah anything helps. Even though I've been programming since I was 15( 34 now ) and dabbled in some hacking in my youth days( way before they started handing out football numbers for people who are caught :russ: ). When I say I started from the bottom. Uh yeah I mean it. I was doing warehouse jobs for 5 years straight, never made over $12/hr during that time. I don't have a degree, I only had my A+ when I started IT and even then the job was only paying $13/hr. I think probably me and @bdizzle story is very similar, so I would go back in this thread and read about his experience with cockroaches :laff::laff: and you'll clearly see this field is what you make of it.

O yeah, what area of IT are you planning on entering? Networking,Programming etc?

You're right about that, it is what you make of it. Some of the stories in this thread are just :wow: Excellence. I'm doing the Security track at my school but I've realized most security jobs in the region are for the government :snoop: These government jobs pay bank tho. I've seen NASA entry level IT jobs start at 100k :whew:

I want to hopefully jump into Networking or Administration tho. I've read every post in this thread and it seems to do that I have to get the CCNA

Yeah, I think there's a big difference between people who can talk about stuff and who actually have things to show you. It's not too difficult to throw around a lot of the fancy computer science words, but when you ask them to show you their work, it turns into a different matter.
