Did you go the self-study route and how long did it take?
yeah, self-study. It took me about 6 Months...
i used the Shon harris AIO book

Ive Had My A+, Network, & Security Books For Months & Havent Opened Them
after a couple of interviews it seems that help desk is like 90% customer service...i went into a couple of interviews and most of the workers and supervisors didn't know shyt about computers. the supervisor that interviewed me didnt know any cisco or microsoft certs and some of the workers didnt know how to set up dual monitors
i feel like you can lie that you have your a+ to get interviews and just sell customer service to them to get the job.
i have my network+ and was thinking of getting ccent but do you think i should skip ccent and go straight for ccna?
i think i'm gonna skip security+ since a lot of the material was covered in a+ and network+

Even though it doesn't teach you a whole lot, I would get the security+ cert anyway. After last year, so many companies were exposed and made the news, *some* companies are starting to take security more seriously. even though probably as many were hacked the years before, Incidents never made the news as much. So anything security related will help.
But heres the thing, you really dont want a bunch of certs w/o the experience to go with them. If you have say "CCNA/CCDA/MSCE/Linux+" etc and you're applying for the help desk, theres a good chance your resume might get tossed. why? because the manager will think you are job hoping or looking to get out of the help desk ASAP. I've seen it time & time again.
and going for the CCENT or CCNA is up to you. personally I would go straight for the CCNA.
The CCNA is 2 tests...
the first test IS the CCENT. So u can't really skip it. There is a single test version but it's not easy and it's meant for people who are renewing their cert rather than people trying to get it.
Ok I have been doing tier 2 desktop support for like 5 years now, I'm ready to get out, I have my sec + i'm working on my cyber security degree. my question is how do I get a job in security or what should be my next step up to get the experience i need to get there...
I'm seeing alot of mentions of the CCENT and CCNA but no one's talking about the MCITP. Isnt the MCITP the most direct route to being a system admin? Most companies dont have an everyday need for cisco techs, aren't they subcontracting those guys on an as needed basis (ie changing office locations, hardware upgrades)?
What about Virtualization..aint that the new wave?
Good info in this thread tho
Very easy to cheat on Microsoft certs...I'm seeing alot of mentions of the CCENT and CCNA but no one's talking about the MCITP. Isnt the MCITP the most direct route to being a system admin? Cisco certs not so much because of the increase simulation of question on the exam.
In short if you don't know your sh!t 70% of the time you will fail a Cisco exam.
100% false breh. You can find brain dumps of every exam up to the CCIE written exam. It'll even give you a step by step instruction on the sims.
My cousin was doing sys admin for a few years and he was one of the lead guys. His job started using vmware so he went and got certified. He took the experience and the cert and now hes making 130k.

Try that on a CCIE lab
