I must have the world worst luck brehs :to: ill try and make this as short as possible.

Basically i live in Europe and i speak both English and another small European language perfectly, I've always been good with computers ect built my computer when i had just turned 15 years old. Anyway i graduated highschool last year in june and was never really into college seems like a waste of time and money for me personally. So back in 2012 i started doing research and looking for jobs so that i could get into the IT industry long story short i found out that Dublin is now the sort of silicone valley of europe because alot of IT companies ibm hp ect have moved there because they pay no tax. Anyhow found out that there are helpdesk positions at these companies but the jobs were in Europeans languages only so helpdesk jobs in Spanish french ect and for my language. i thought i was :win: when i found this information because on another forum some other people were moving to Dublin for these jobs and other IT language jobs too. I thought this was going to be my entrance to the IT industry fast forward after my graduation in june last year i had to some bullshyt to take care of so my move to dublin put to the side in October i applied for a helpdesk position at ibm, went through tests, interview process ect and everything was successful. The recruiter told me that he was waiting on ibm for more information regarding starting date ect about a month went by from when he sent me the email telling me i was successful to me sending him a email asking him what's up ect, the idiot didn't even reply:wtf:. I was like fukk them nikkas :pacspit: like i said before many other IT companies are in dublin so i applied for other jobs got no calls ect was a bit upset for a while cause i really want to do this shi.t last week Tuesday i got another phonecall from a recruiter in glasgow asking me if im interested in helpdesk position for IBM and i told him yes. I was supposed to have my interview this monday but i never got the call and the bytch nikka recuiter haven't even replied to my email i sent him later on monday asking him about it:stopitslime:. This is the second time i've been fukked over by a recuiter not sure what im going to do now im broke as fukk might end up just applying to college and getting some bullshyt degree :sadcam:

So couple of pointers here when dealing with recruiters...

1. Never...ever...trust them...ever...not even one time...you got to remember...that job did not just get posted to whatever recruiter you were working with...that job got posted to prob a 100 different firms...so anytime a recruiter tells you he got an in, he know the hiring manager, he yadda yadda yadda...bullshyt...I have recruiters submit a candidate to me, I go out and meet the dude, recruiter yapping me up like we friends and I never seen the dude before...So when dealing with recruiters the expectation should be that you never hear from them again...anything else is just going to be heartbreak...the only person who can really get you a job at a company...is a real life true HR person who works at that company...anybody else is doing nothing but tossing your resume in a pile, which you can do for yourself...

2. I see you said you reached out to the recruiter and he didn't reply...that is because he is off to the other guy...that is what recruiters do...it is a numbers game to them...the more they submit the more likely they get the candidate that gets the job...the more likely they get paid...did you discuss price with this dude? If possible try not to do that...because if you say you will do it for say 22 an hour...and he calls the next guy who says he will do it for 20 an hour...then the recruiter just made himself 2 bucks an hour...

3. The best way to deal with a recruiter when they call is to ask them what the job roles are...ask them what the expected pay is...ask them to send you an email with the job description...if they can't do at least 2 out of the 3 quck fast in a hurry then :camby:

4. Big companies like IBM churn and burn IT helpdesk people pretty quick...there is a reason that job is always open...of course you have to get your foot in the door but prepare yourself for the job to suck...you will have users who say you are the reason they can't do any work because "their system is down" and you will have sys admins who probably won't know much more than you do swear that whatever issue you find "is a helpdesk problem, not a sys admin problem. There is nothing wrong with the AD server, Exchange server, CIF server..."

Unfortunately IT is not the fairy tale land that all the websites and newscast say it is...especially in the beginning...it is probably THE hardest field for someone to break into...simply because there are more jobs than people and companies know they can get some guy who has been out of a job for 6 months to do it for pennies on the dollar...and not sure how it works in Dublin but in the states it is almost impossible to get an IT job without a degree...

If you decide to stick with it then good luck to you...it is hard to break in...but once you are in it a few years you will always be able to find someone to hire you and pay you less than your last job...it's the IT way...

Our textbook for my database admin class is the official training guide for the MS exam 70-462. Would it be a good cert to get after I finish the course? Obviously any cert is valuable but how close does it bring me to living the Coli life?
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/exam-70-462.aspx

If you do not have any real work experience, BE VERY CAREFUL WITH WHAT TYPE OF CERT AND HOW MANY CERTS YOU GET. As a manager, if I see a guy fresh out of college with a CCNA, MCITP, and some other shyt wit no work experience am instantly going to be like :rudy:...that is going to come off as somebody who brain dumped a cert...especially a microsoft cert you can find the answers to those things everywhere...I will be like "How did this dude learn the ends and outs of Administrating a W2k8 box set up for AD or Exchange and I don't see any real world experience where he worked on a real corporate IT infrastructure...

I would say more than 3 certs with no work experience is pushing your luck...most hiring managers are not going to really care about your classes...because years ago they took classes...so they know what you learn in class has little bearing with how it works in the real world...

In class you learn how to make it work setting it up from scratch when everything is perfect...but it won't work like that in the real world...in the real world you will be replacing some guy who left...who set it up wrong...and shyt man these servers you need to add to the domain are somehow on a non-routable IP...but somehow some application team is FTP'ing random stuff to them:wtf:

Also do you want to be a DBA? If not then :manny:

Not only that, but if you check out some of these "technical" recruiters on linkedin, you will see that they only have a business degree. Some within the last year and fresh out of college themselves. Not exactly the kind of people who are going to find you a nice fit for that desktop support, sysadmin, or net engineer job.

So I read this thread few months ago, got me excited like IT was the thing and I was ready to switch over.

However I got no experience in the IT world but I did read up on few books, about few weeks ago I made calls and got lucked up.

So basically I got internship offer, I have the choice to be a Desktop specialist at a HUGE company (fortune 500)

or Jr System Admin at a small company.

IT folks....which one should I go for? :lupe:

Jr System Admin

Unless it's one of the Big Banks, Salle Mae etc. Desktop Support isn't worth it.

I'm about to add another Skill, Netbackup Administrator to my Resume. Hopefully by the end of the Summer I can add SCCM Administrator as well.

1. Yes i know now not to trust them fukkers shame i didn't know this information before. Shame that so many it companies use these dumb recruiting companies

2. Nope i never did discuss anything about salary or anything like that

3. Yes i always tell them to email me the job description last week another recuiter called me for some bullshyt finance job but it was in some fukked town and as i black person why the fukk would i want to stay in some small ass town in the middle of nowhere. The guy tried to bullshyt the town as if it's some college town which it's not.

4. Yes I'm aware of people getting fired ect and the job to suck but my orignal plan was to only work helpdesk for 8 months or so then start looking for a proper job and if i couldn't get a proper job i would simply go back to school. The thing with dublin is that i was only applying for language jobs which means that the amount of people who actually apply for the jobs are extremely low because whoever get's hired has actually to move to Ireland and only a few are. There are better jobs than helpdesk it jobs in ireland, my brothers friend has actually been there for a couple of years and from what i understand he is now working in IT sales and doing very good for himself traveling ect and he has now degree.
