I'll be at the one year mark at the end of this month in this Project Manager role at a new company for me. It's a specialized software company that does on-prem and SaaS solutions. Just had my performance review today, got a 5% bonus and 5% salary increase.
I started out doing 50% IT deployment PM related tasks (JIRA triaging, scheduling deployments, coordinating hosted environment maintenance) and 50% project management tasks (proposals, coordinating with customers on open issues, managing schedules, keeping tracking of project milestones, reports to upper management)
In February management wanted me to chose between IT and PM, I chose PM. Since then they got me managing 6-7 projects, which seems like a lot. The company is hurting for talent...like many others right now. We've had a lot of people leaving lately, which leaves the remaining projects to us.
I'm sticking it out for now because I'm gaining invaluable experience and it's 95% remote. I go onsite to a local customer meeting once a month, besides that it's all Teams.
