Ended up leaving for a smaller increase in pay, $10k signing bonus and a manager that seems to want to see me succeed (3-4 of the senior/principal engineers worked for this manager at different roles, seems like a solid guy from what all of the team members say). Only problem is no 401k, only rsu options and I’m not sure about how good of a product they’ve got but my goal is to get more k8s experience and if need be, I’ll go to another role :manny:

this will be 4 jobs in about 15 months for me :manny:

Fortunately, it’s an engineer’s market currently :pachaha:
I'm in cybersecurity and switched jobs just as much the last 2 years. I have zero patience for any bullshyt at a company and will jump ship in a heartbeat.

I haven't made it past my 1 year anniversary at 4 companies in a row now. They either lied about the job duties, micro-manage you like crazy or expect you to do the job of 5 people.

And despite job hopping repeatedly my salary keeps going up with each new job. While coworkers who stay put are getting nickle and dimed to death.

I know the tech job market will eventually come back down to earth. But part of me wants to see just how much money I can get before it collapses.

The Great Resignation has been good to a nikka. I hope this shyt never ends.

As a breh thats going to make a career change over to Cybersecurity, you got any advice? I wanna do cloud, but other than AWS are there any other certs I should be aiming for that could give me a leg up? I started WGU a few months ago since I saw that the program is basically setup for people to knock out a bunch of certs, I just got my A+ this month. Also thanks to everyone in this thread, yall keep me motivated!

As far as cybersecurity certifications it's been SANS for awhile now. But none of these employers want to pay the 8K per person for SANS training. Knowing people will most likely jump ship in a year or two after getting those certs. I've done it myself and won't stick around anyplace without a huge training budget.

Getting into Cloud cybersecurity is still like printing money. There are tons of companies migrating to the cloud mad late still. I purposely look for companies who don't have a clue what their doing. Because they'll more than likely pay for training.

Knocked out out the Google Cloud Architect today, (passed it years ago too, much more difficult now), should knock out both the Networking/Security net week too if it all goes well. After that I will focus on Terraform. Goal is to test the market hopefully I can at least get around 150K to 160K.

One of my friends that works for big tech makes close to 161K a year plus anual stocks and bonuses. That is putting her close to $300K a year at big tech company.

I went through a gauntlet of interviews monday and tuesday and i am mentally exhausted brehs :deadmanny:. Both were the typical 5 interview standard that these tech companies liked to do (2 technical/leadership/past experience/team player).

One role is a senior network engineer role at a small tech company (500 ppl) and they are looking for someone with cloud experience. They still build data centers due to the nature of their product so it's heavy networking. They are lacking on the cloud networking side which is what Im skilled at. There would be on-call but from what they said its not bad (I dont believe that).

The other is a cloud network security engineer role for a big tech company. This team is newer in the org so the ability to lead and set standards for the team is there. It will be strictly netsec tasks. No management of infra rather just the policies for it. No on call :blessed: everyone was stressing how amazing the wlb is.

Both fully remote. I'm leaning more towards the netsec gig honestly. I get to transition into a niche security role and maintain what I am knowledgeable in. Plus the company is bigger and I can squeeze more money out of them. Assuming I get both offers I'll use them against each other for that big pay day :blessed: Just waiting to hear back the final decision but from what the recruiter told me for the netsec role its been very positive so far.

It should be for the I9 verification however if you have a passport that should suffice.

Honestly always did birth certificate. Misplaced my SSN card(i kno lol) and went to get another for a new job recently, and the person working at the SSA office and even stated on the SSA.gov site that you shouldn't have to send in a picture of your SSN card. As long as the employer knows the number, they should just call into SSA and confirm the number with them.

For people who aren't the best at studying, the material isn't hard but it's just not that interesting, how did yall power through?? I'm trying to envision the bag and lifestyle I want later through getting these certs but for now, it's a struggle.

I don't have a long drawn out explanation for this but I hope this helps.. think about your WHY, why you want to do this for me I wanted more money in my pocket after paying my necessary bills so I could spend on what I wanted to spend on. Having nice things because I didn't have nice things growing up is another WHY I'm going after my cert. I try to envision studying my certs like working on my jumpshot in the gym to get better on the basketball court. Everyone's WHY is different but that's mine
