I have a desktop technician contract offer on the table, I’m thinking of leaving my current role (technical support for printers) for the experience on my resume… is this a good idea? I have never accepted a contract offer

How long is the contract for? Or is it one of those ongoing permanent contracts? Are you contracted directly with the company you’re working for or through a 3rd party?

I was in charge of getting the equipment for new conference rooms. I had a quote from a supplier, but it was too expensive. So the chief of staff had me set another zoom call with them, her, me, and my manager.

She picked everything and then asked if I was okay with it. All I could do was say yes. I don’t care that much because I hate supporting conference rooms and zoom. But it was still kind of disrespectful.

In her defense, I should’ve asked about the budget and clarification on timeline/due date weeks ago.

The contract is for a year with "the possibility of extension" and I would be contracted through a 3rd party IT company

Take it if you don’t have another offer. It’s a step up from doing printer support. The year contract is a good deadline for you to master the role and/or gain the skills for a better job.

any advice for a IT brethren who been in the IT field since 2017. i dont have any certs under my belt but mostly experience doing desktop support engineer experience. Im currently at a gig I started last sept for a decent pay of 80-85k but i have to be in office 5 days a week. My title is IT Support Engineer II but im mostly doing helpdesk/desktop support work mixed in with access to teams/office 365 admin, azure AD, etc. the company is a mess and ppl are leaving left and right because of the disorganization of the overall company and IT department is a mess completely since i technically dont have a manager to report to. Im currently studying for sec+ but I really want to get back to a role that is hybrid/completely remote if possible. any suggestions on what kind of jobs to apply to? i been applying and interviewing but I keep getting lowballed paywise

There's plenty of full remote options unless you're only applying locally in certain markets....Expand your search to United States / Remote on linkedin and Indeed.com
Also, from my personal experience the 1st quarter is terrible for job hunting because companies want to hold out for the IT unicorn and lowball everyone and offer shytty benefits. Once 2nd quarter rolls around, your prospect will get better.

Also, when discussing compensation and benefits, ask them for the range and never let them corner you with the "what range are you looking to be in" question. If their range is 97k-115k, and you want 105k, ask for 110k . Worst Case scenario, they ghost you or say no. If you're adamant about fully remote work, dont settle for hybrid or "1 to 2 days in the office...just because" bullshyt. IF they cant meet your requirements and start trying to bait and switch you...bush'em

Finance industry has alot of remote opportunities so try there

also, watch out for phoney ass remote postings

some companies will post a job tagged under remote but at the bottom of the JD or on their actual website say 100% on-site or only remote if you're local to wherever city the jobs in

straight scumbag shyt, and its a red flag that its company you dont want to work for if they are this blatantly dishonest.

just keep looking breh, with ti being the beginning of the 2nd Qtr, more attractive openings from companies that are actually serious about hiring somebody instead of this trend of doing 3-7 round interviews to stall and mine for resumes, wasting candidates time.

good luck.

Just accepted a 30 an hr remote contract gig. It’s desktop support and my goal will be for it to be the last desktop support before doing some sort of admin job(mainly networking)

My last job before IT was 14 an hr. It’s humbling to look back at my journey so far

and what’s even better is with more time and certs I’ll be itching closer to the 6 figure 6 certs club

for now I’ll reside in the 4 cert 60k club
