You're wasting time with the A+ unless you're willing to work for minimum wage damn near. I would jump straight to Cloud certifications instead.

Why didn't you mention cloud certifications with me when i brought up getting the a+ ?

Good look. I'll probably still finish just to lay a good foundation then move on the Network+ or this next. Thoughts?

Guys I just put in my two weeks for my minimum wage technician job and going full time on studying for my AWS cert. I already been studying for this cert for months and did not take the exam yet cause I want to make sure I know everything 100%. Out of all the IT fields, I actually have a keen interest in the cloud and the AWS infrastructure. So many things you can do and everyday I discover more:wow:

I would recommend not quitting yet and just sacrificing your free time to study. Especially if your company uses AWS currently. You could easily gain experience using it and then transition to a full on cloud engineer role either with them or somewhere else.

I wouldn’t recommended quitting right now

Certs are good but experience is key and the more time you have under your belt working the better

Keep working, get the certs, do projects based on the certs and then try to move on

I’m telling you this as someone that has my AWS cert already. These jobs posts and HR people are the real people you need to push through

Why is the A+ still being taken?

Purely entry level?

Yes

Jobs want a way to see if you have some sort of knowledge

if say you did and internship, worked as IT support in your college campus or something in that nature then it’ll showcase that you did something

But it also depends on where you are from and how fierce the competition is

I live in NYC and had my A+,Net+ and 4 months free internship before getting my first job

I personally think it is a big waste of time. It would be best to get the network+, linux plus+ and security plus, this is what the company I work for would look for. Personally from a competitive standpoint, I would aim higher. When I wanted to get in security, I went for the cissp, although I had zero experience. The recruiter and my manager were impressed that although I had zero experience, I was able to pass the exam.

It is a competitive job market out there. It's always best to aim really high. You will learn the basics along the way.
