I wouldn't pay any kind of real money for an A+ certificate unless it was damn near free. You can probably buy a Udemy A+ course for less than $100 bucks.
Check to see what resources your local library has access to. The ones out here in LA County give you access to Lynda(LinkedIn Learning) for free. You just need to have a library card. Worst case scenario I would buy a Udemy course when they are on sale. You should not be paying too much for an A+ course.

I would recommend not quitting yet and just sacrificing your free time to study. Especially if your company uses AWS currently. You could easily gain experience using it and then transition to a full on cloud engineer role either with them or somewhere else.

I wouldn’t recommended quitting right now

Certs are good but experience is key and the more time you have under your belt working the better

Keep working, get the certs, do projects based on the certs and then try to move on

I’m telling you this as someone that has my AWS cert already. These jobs posts and HR people are the real people you need to push through

Already put in my resignation letter, sorry guys but the job was dead end. The experience I had is not really experience that can transfer over to the cloud role. I was basically just fixing the physical aspect of equipment. No room for any type of growth. I only took it cause I wanted just basic IT experience. I never even knew what a server was or how it looked before joining my current job. I learned so much, so now im out

I would make sure to use that free AWS account for a year and setup as many labs as possible. The best way to learn this AWS stuff is through hands on experience.

I put in my notice at my job also. Mainly because I wasn't getting enough exposure to cloud Security. And instead they wanted to dictate everything you learned.

If the job doesn't allow you to gain any marketable skills it's not worth keeping. I know plenty of dudes stuck in a dead end jobs now who can't leave even if they wanted too. Basically their company refused to modernize and now they've fallen way behind everyone else on the market.

Every year I put my resume out there to gauge my market value. That's the only way to know if you're falling behind or not.

The company I work for hired me for cloud security, I ended up doing IPS/Endpoint etc. They will pay for all my cloud renewal and new ones I want to get next year. My manager claims to be very open but I know he is the type to put business first. So my privacy certs, I am not telling him about. I will just pay out of pocket for those. I do not want to tip my hand :heh:.

bx all day
To add onto what several have said in terms of where to go to study

search youtube, reddit and google but mainly youtube for the free shyt

there's a lot of IT teachers that don't belong to udemy yet that realize that they can make money to teach on youtube so those people are dropping video after video of free shyt for us so they can make a name for themselves. It's a lot of indian dudes that do this but everyone else is noticing and trying to jump on the wave

I realized this when I was looking at Jermey It labs for my CCNA and the youtube algorithm started to advertise more shyt:lolbron:

That's a good look. I'm leaving my current company because they've cut the training budget to the Bone. I see no reason to stick around if I can't add to my skill set.

All those certifications and training courses could be worth big money if cybersecurity hiring explodes next year.

Question, which cloud platform you aiming for? Every day on linkedin I see someone getting aws certified. I am thinking not not renewing the ones I have but going towards Azure. I feel like AWS is becoming everyone's go to.

I'm going the AWS route because I despise Microsoft. Plus they have such a big lead I don't think anyone will catch them anytime soon.

After AWS SAA, do you think it would be good going after the AWS Security Speciality cert or Sec+?

AWS Security Speciality especially if you want to get into Cloud security. Security+ is more for working as a SOC analyst.

Gotcha. Is AWS Security Speciality the most relevant Cloud Security cert, or is there another you think would be better? Only reason I am even going after the one on Amazon is because I'm already using their platform.
