Is Kendrick Lamar the best execution of an industry plant in the history of music?

So KDOT was fake indie to establish an emotional connection, and that ultimately benefited how he was perceived as an artist for the rest of his career? Plausible theory......

But I don't even remember a "rise from obscurity" story being used to push GKMC. I just remember folks hearing it and being like :krs: including me. Maybe all the "Is he or ain't he Indie" arguments was just a hip-hop forum phenomenon. I wasn't on The Coli, or SOHH, or any other website when GKMC dropped, so I didn't see the phenomenon of users using his "rise from obscurity", as a tally on his "real artists" board.

Again, I heard the name "Kendrick Lamar" here and there, but never heard his music. So GKMC had a "damn I BARELY know who this cat is, but he's now my fave mainstream rapper" reaction.. I just happened to listen to a leaked version of GKMC on YouTube with no preconceived opinion on the artist. Couldn't have been more organic than that. First time I heard Swimming Pools, I thought it was dope, but it didn't make me wanna go to Itunes and purchase GKMC. I didn't even know that was the name of his album, until I listened to the leaked YouTube version and saw the cover art.
I kept hearing 'Swimming Pools' on the radio but I didn't pay it much mind. But by chance I caught the video for 'Backseat Freestyle' and was like who the fukk is this cat? That and a couple Sec 80 songs got me firmly on the bandwagon.

ORGANIC.

this is pretty gay of you.

dudes in denial and admittedly scared to face the facts.

just say you like the bul and keep it movin.

It's not gay, in denial or scared to face any of the "facts" you pointed up. None of that shyt matters....I'm just trying to help you see. But you don't mean any harm, you're trying to protect what you love the only way you know how.

nikka, by the time Drake's "buzz" was happening he was already signed to Cash Money

He had people fukking with him, but it was mostly Canadians and people who recognized him Degrassi

nikkas didn't start fukking with Drake like that until around the time Stunt Hard and the original Forever dropped

It was clear then that Cash Money/Universal was pushing him.
It wasn't until So Far Gone dropped that it was discovered that Rap-A-Lot had their money in also

I have a lot of good memories attached to that song also:banderas:

Drake's doing his thing now, I can't even lie...He's one of, if not the hottest rapper in the game

I knew Cash Money was going to dumb him down for dollars, but had he just stayed a rapper and missed the singing?......:wow:

He is, he literally was throwing money around paying for relationships and linking up with already established artists.

Then he was acting like he was independent by the time so far gone came out :dead:

Both are plants in a way but kendricks come up is more organic :heh:
How so? Drake clearly has a trail of memorable songs that completely rationalize his position. Kendrick really doesnt. He's like Kevin Hart. Supposed to be a big deal but when you kick back and try to think of a bunch of funny shyt he's done,YOU CANT.
Just like with kendrick,he's supposed to be a big deal,Sold albums, performs on big award shows and finally has his own real tour.
But when you search for memorable records or even features,it's slim pickings.
That's a Kim Kardashion type of career. Famous for nothing

None of it matters, the point is Drake was being pushed harder then Kendrick was

But like I said, Kendrick's rap skills are better than Drake's no matter how anyone spins it
Drake has not been pushed any harder,he was just pushed more blatantly.
Kendrick's push is more covered. Inflated metacritic ratings. Being allowed on big award shows year after year to perform a song that might have been the 15th most popular song that year while rappers with bigger songs werent allowed.

And Drake has personally worked waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay harder for his position than kendrick.
Countless memorable features and singles, official and unofficial
Drake went hard for his noteriety, kendrick's been ducked off recording songs with taylor swift

@Wacky D ,
Despite @SunZoo being fairly intelligent,I believe he is a Homo, you can't expect homos to have Masculine principles or reactions to certain perspectives. He's the type of guy that will see something and act like he doesnt just to keep up a bullshyt narrative that he's committed to.

Drake is the most successful pop rap plant
Kendrick is the most successful "conscious" plant

Kendrick's whole story is perfect
-From Compton, a city with a lot of hip hop history behind it, as well as being known as a rough city to grow up in
-Got a Dre cosign
-"goes against the grain" of the mainstream while simultaneously being a part of it
-"Gets signed" after being indie when in reality he's been signed for years
-Critically acclaimed no matter what he does, like Kanye, even for subpar records like Section.80
-Section.80 his breakout record received shyt tons of critical acclaim at a perfect time
-Major label backing
-Massive debut of GKMC (which is really a good record), tons of guests from the industry, Dre cosign
-Critically acclaimed crew when they're all pretty subpar, Ab-Soul especially
-Schoolboy Q receiving critical acclaim for not good records
-came from a group that was buzzing in the undergound, likely completely manufactured as a group
-Released hipster bait "jazz" hip hop and some kind of overarching concept that people can't seem to agree on
-Make it slightly more difficult and inaccessible so people can pat themselves on the back for liking it
-Enlist industry legends such as George Clinton
-Got more critical acclaim
-Connected himself to 2pac in one of the most corny moves in hip hop history, trying to solidify his "GOAT" narrative
-Buzz over an alright verse in Control simply because he called people out
-Conveniently connected to interscope and aftermath, a group known for manufacturing "GOATs" (Eminem anyone?)

And does Kendrick ever really say anything controversial? Is anyone paying attention to what Kendrick is saying besides the fans? I doubt it. He's no household name.

To me this is like Eminem's story. They just made a pop star into a GOAT rapper by having a dude with some talent. Em has no real classics, Kendrick, well time will tell. TPAB is damn sure no 9/10 though. It's all marketing, and you know they're invested heavily into Kenny and the whole narrative they have going. They have SO much money in this. It's not Drake vs Kenny and the people, it's Drake's McDonald's vs Kendrick's Burger King. Two manufactured icons.

The problem is you, and

are lost you especially...

Notice I don't ask either of you to agree with me...I just try to build, and when you try to veer the argument into something that does not really pertain to Hip Hop, I try to get you back on track, and for that I get called names. ...if you wanna build we can build, if not continue to shyt-post and have your homo-erotic fantasies in your own head.
