Is Kendrick Lamar the best execution of an industry plant in the history of music?

You aren't confused, you're in denial. The shyt is not hard to understand, at all.

He literally said "they didn't immediately announce the deal so it would seem like they were independent"....you ain't gotta guess why they did it, or be confused. Or say things like "but they aren't obliged to announce it". He is point blank telling you the agenda behind not announcing it.

And again, Jay Rock was signed to Strange Music in 2010....he's the only one from TDE Strange Music signed. You're acting like this guy is a random poster on The Coli just talking out his ass....he had business dealings with TDE before anybody even knew who they were.

:gucci:

He said TDE/Kendrick hid the deal long after they signed to Interscope, in an attempt to appear indie to fans. That is the definition of a plant.
As I said before I don't even give a fukk if he's a plant but some of you dudes are taking easily understood facts and :dwillhuh: "so how is he a plant, what's a plant, what's the harm in hiding the Interscope deal?"....the shyt is silly.

Fred.

You actually have it wrong....

Kendrick, like ASAP Rocky, like Wiz Khalifa, had a deal waiting. Dr Dre told Interscope to snatch him up. Just like he did with Eminem and what Eminem did with 50 Cent. They didn't announce Kendrick's deal on purpose. He had his deal lined up FIRST, they didn't have the deal with TDE until later and that was announced, everywhere. Press releases and EVERYTHING. The TDE deal was never hidden though, that's not true.

Kendrick is not a plant because he wasn't just some guy who didn't put out any music at all and blew up because of a push from a major label (like say the group LMFAO or Onyx) He had a bunch of music out, multiple mixtapes, had gone on tour with Game, long before anyone gave a fukk about him really. I saw him before he blew up, he wasn't even as well known as DOM KENNEDY or PAC DIV in LA. He was around though. AD is when he got his buzz up heavy in LA.

If people want to make the argument that it was astro turf'd because they didn't announce the deal out of fear of alienating the 'underground' image I think that's fine but he's not a plant.

I don't personally care about this either.

But there's a difference in saying "I don't care"....and disingenuously taking the evidence and saying it don't exist. Which is what you did.

As far as how effective his ploy was....who knows....but if the CEO of one of the biggest indie labels on the planet is telling you "this is something artists do, they pretend to be indie to drum up interest"....it's kinda goofy to demand hard stats. He's telling you it happens, what more proof do you need? The exact number of people this swayed to buy his albums? Because that info is obviously not available.

Fred.

You may not care either way, and that's fair. But the "Industry Plant" tag has been used more than enough to down a certain artist accomplishments, or their all around general appeal, or their level of skill. If it was just an observation, or just something to put out there, then the "Industry Plant" tag wouldn't be brought up, anytime these artist artistry, record sales, or acclaim is brought up.

rosenbergs being and playing dumb as always.

Juelzers always wanna santana about "Drake the evil corporation plant" but completely downplay how leafy their favorite geek-positive, faux-deep rappers are. All of a sudden, the corporation doesn't really matter and it's all about the music and that's just standard for all artists

Keep up the insecurity :myman:

Whatever dude. I dont care how many Gucci smilies you post. You can't tell me how I am so kill that noise. Im not asking wtf a plant is. I'm asking you why its a fukking problem. And you're rambling about shyt I already know. Again... WHY is it a problem? I don't give a fukk what the Coli's definition of a plant is when the term "plant" is just Internet forum term that was stolen from cacs to begin with. The first time I saw the term "plant" it was reffering to "paid" movie critics that give questionable reviews.

I watched this whole interview last night. And while it was VERY interesting and informative(I learned some things about Tech and Strange Music that I didn't know) he doesn't explain how Kendrick is an industry plant, at all....

Only thing he touched on was them going to TDE and how TDE was Indy. None of them corroborate the laundry list of reasons that users have posted in here, as to how KDot is an industry plant.

:stopitslime:

u didnt watch it then.

He says when TDE claimed indy, Interscope was working in the background.

Thats the definition of a plant.
