Hype is usually stupid anyway. The Spurs are not a great team, any team that's losing will have people lose interest. Additionally, while he has massive talent, and has shown many flashes so far, it's going to take time for him to evolve into a legendary player (if that's his destiny). That's why to me, it's always been he's playing with house money his first couple of seasons. I'll start really evaluating him once he gets experience under his belt, and has a more competent squad. I don't know or care about national hype but it's clear from the times I've seen him (and the Spurs have been heavily featured so far) that he will be a star in the league. He doesn't even have a proper point guard to help make the game easier for him and get easy baskets. Once Pop gets that for him and he continues to develop he will be fine. And not trying to compare him with Chet but he probably would look just as good playing with an All NBA guard in Shai and an all around player like Giddy. Both who are better passers then anyone on the Spurs.
