As with all rookies, no matter how hyped, I wait until at least their third year to come to any sort of conclusion about how their career will play out - especially 18-19 year old ones. To me, this is the only rational conclusion for someone who has been watching the NBA for a good amount of time yet there's always this "rush to call a bust" mentality. Many players don't blossom until years later, some come in and are good right away, some have a fluke year and then go downhill from there.

Wemby has shown flashes that he can become great but he's, 19, saddled with a bad team, and what is suspected to be stealth tanking by Pop. There's simply no way to call how his career will go at this point, but the early signs point to being very good to great.

My Pops Forever RIP
sure but they prolly feel like tre jones isn't their future franchise PG
He's 23. They're not getting a better one through the draft, at least one that will be conducive towards helping Wemby. Maybe if they land Topic things get real interesting, but they don't need to tank for him,

He's not underperforming.

The team is just ass.

19 points, 9.7 rebounds. 2.5 assists. 1.3 steals, and 2.6 blocks for a team where he's not even the main focus of the offense is not bad.

43% FG can 100% be better though.
Those are good numbers but for all the hype and him supposed to be better than Jordan and Lebron, he’s under performing. Chet putting up similar numbers on a team with a top 10 player in the league. Why isn’t Wemby not the focus point? He is not ready on a team full of scrubs? I’m not saying he won’t be great cause I believe he will be great but the hype was generational talent like we never seen before

Chet is 2 years older. There’s no comparison between him and Wemby. Their numbers shouldnt be similar.

he's also a big man

Mike and Bron were wings so they had the ball in their hands. Weren't dependent on others to feed them.

This just shows such a fundamental misunderstanding of basketball situations. First of all Chet had a whole year with his team to learn and get adjusted to them. Secondly he plays on a much better team that is actively trying to win. He’s therefore able to be plugged in and utilized immediately. The Spurs don’t care about winning right now. They are focused on developing Wemby and some of the younger players so it is a completely different situation than OKC. Additionally Wemby is a big who doesn’t dominate the ball - at least not at this point in his career. He therefore depends on other players to get him the ball, something the Spurs have had difficulty doing due to lack of good playmakers. I never gaf about hype because it’s usually overdone. It will take a few years to see if Wemby develops into just a very good perennial all star type player or potential legend.

I feel u but those are just excuses. You don’t care about the hype but the hype was there. That’s what’s this thread is about. Nobody said he’s a bust

I more or less agree. But spurs are doing what they think is best.

And I think they are a bad team anyway so they just wanna get the best pick possible
