i think one thing ATL does right is having all this colleges in the area that creates a population of educated people plus for a lot of black people in the area, going to college is part of your black identity, which is something that is not very common in lets say detroit (ive never been to either city, so correct me if im wrong)

and then when you add the educated black moving in you create a critical mass

so establishing more universities in black cities should be a goal, it creates and attracts educated blacks, maybe some of these HBCU's that are in financial trouble should move into black cities, just an idea

c/s

Georgia, has a long and strong Black college tradition. Education will lead to higher wages/salaries and thus a higher standard of living. Black institutions of higher learning should be at the forefront of revitalizing the Black communities that surround them. Think about all the employment opportunities created with the establishment of just one college or university.

As far as where HBCUs are located, I don't see that as a problem. Most of them are located in the South and Mid-Atlantic (where most African-Americans are).

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the Civil Rights movement but we should've stopped at equal rights and protection under the law. I fully agree with the laws and amendments that came out of that movement. But...we shouldn't have begged to intregate into white society. That's where we fukked up. The Black Power Movement was our chance to get economically independent, which we can all agree is what we need the most. The realest freedom we can aspire to in this country.

During that time frame (Black Power in the 1960s) we started to come into our own and form a viable culture. Black banks, political movements, black entertainment successfully reaching the masses, ect. We were gaining ground in this society. Creating a meaningful self sustaining culture.
So what happened? :leostare:

Capitalism brehs. We started making the American dream our dream. A dream that was never designed for us. We had our own dreams to aspire to. We became trend setters, but instead of captializing off of our own sh1t, we chose to beg for acceptance in a community that never pretended to love or accept us. Still continues to this day. We gave them power by working within their framework instead of forming our own. But I didn't say all this to state the obvious. We can still fix this sh1t...

Praise Jesus :blessed: be the name of the Lord.

Somebody has finally made a thread about this. Acceptance vs Economic Independence.

this is the fight we must chose for our Generation. This is the answer brehs. We must spread the word to our fellow brehs & children. Drill it in their head about becoming owners & hiring fellow blacks to run their companies. This is the way. We have seen the light. :blessed:

:krs: connect the HBCU's with a pipeline of our brehs with capital. Get Athletes, Entertainers, etc. on board and they can buy up major real estate & start businesses by pooling their money together (to decrease risk) and connect them with the smart, young black professionals straight out of schools to run their businesses. :gladbron:

Good thread, and unfortunately not the first time i have seen it made or spoke about this subject. There are two discussion going on right now from what i have read. Black integration and Economic independence.

I disagree with the point about black integration, i feel that integration is something that would have happened no matter what road black independence would have gone down, and although it sounds like a very noble idea end of the day your are not going to have two society's ( a black one / the rest ) operating under one flag , simply not going to happen. In my opinion where blacks made the biggest mistake was becoming complacent at the "end" of the civil rights movement and not continuing the struggle to obtain FULL freedom, half of it is complacency and the other half was the governments eradication of true black leaders. Black leaders who were not only truly influential on a large scale within the black community, but black leaders who were ready to go to WAR. If you read about the climate during the height of the civil rights movements or listen to those tapes of Malcolm X with the FBI you can hear the FEAR in the voice of these white people who were scared of another civil war. A civil war between blacks (& poor whites) vs middle class and rich whites. Read up on the origins of the G.I bill and you'll see what am talking about.

Overall though here is what happened :

- Neutralize black leadership and black movements
- Give blacks a faux sense of victory ( civil rights)
- Come up with a economic plan to destroy blacks (welfare state)
- Come up with a sociological plan to destroy blacks (divide black families)
- Unleash weapons ( drug war + prison industrial complex)

and you arrive at the state of the black community in America today. So yes black economic independence is important but more importantly black need to stop being so complacent no other oppressed group in the world seems to be so happy so to speak living among there oppressors. Look at the Arabs, the Irish , the non Muslim Arabs , the native Americans at one time all the groups where at FULL OUT WAR with there oppressors for decades and in some cases hundreds of years. Yes i know what I am saying may sound radical but trust me if you look at the history of the successful society's anywhere in the world they were all founded and backs of those willing to lay down there lives UNTIL VICTORY.

Anyways that just mt two cent summed up real quick there are obviously many other factors which for the sake of attention i didn't get into.

most of these things happened b/c black people were complicit. Welfare IMO brings way more positives than negatives. If you dont take advantage of it then its your fault.
-black families: nobody forced black fathers to desert the family structure.
-nobody force people to sell/take drugs.

- Welfare was originally designed to help poor whites at one point over half the whites in this country were on welfare , blacks then qualified for welfare and that's when got the taboo status is has now , in order to get these white off welfare( and increase the gap between poor whites and blacks) and encourage the largest economic boom in the country the G.I bill was enacted.

RACE - History - Post-War Economic Boom and Racial Discrimination

African Americans and the G.I. Bill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.I._Bill

a little know fact about welfare when it first started to "benefit" blacks is that a black women that was found to be living with a black man would lose all her welfare benefits. It was so crazy at point that the white case workers would spy on black women and or question there children, any mention of man bam your lost your benefits, which more often than not is what these women and there survived on.

Black men were not given jobs, you think the economic climate is tough now? Just imagine not being able to find a job at all no matter what you did or how you where educated. How were you going to take care of your family. The jobs they did decided to give you were paying so low that you could barely feed yourself , never mind support a family on, hence the women HAD to go on welfare and the man was displaced from the home.

The destruction of blacks had been a very well thought out and systematic plan, none of this happened by accident.

We need to start a bank or buy a bank.

I thought about that, but who in here has the capital and means to do that? If anybody does good sh1t (PLEASE SPEAK UP!), but if not we can get organized and appeal to an existing black bank (or banks, competition is healthy) on a capitalistic level. Make them do their dam job and work for US. If we get a large enough group together who pledge to move their money en masse to a black bank they will be clamoring for our business. From there, we tell them what we need from them to get it. Then we negotiate the agreement and make the move.

We don't even have to move all of our money initially, maybe just our savings or let a portion of your direct deposit go to the bank until we have enough confidence that they are working for US and gaining economic ground.
