It was slept in because its stupid a d meant to troll the topic

Do you want to explain why it was slept on?

And miss me with the mythilogical black woman that always yell I don't need a man

Actually, there are a lot of black professors\psychologists that would agree with this...

They believe that the feminist and hippy free love movement played a significant role in decentralizing the black family....

Check out this doc...It might still be on youtube...

Its called what black men think....

Dr. Alvin F. Poussaint, Dr. Shelby Steele

You can cop it on Amazon, or better yet, it may be free on the Doc Channel's website

we don't trust each other because there is no common culture that we all practice. Go into any predominantly black neighbourhood..... we have different ideologies, different religions, different philosophies, etc. etc. etc. what is that common thing that binds us? what is our culture? what does it even mean to be black? we haven't DEFINED these things. We haven't even defined who "WE" includes. Tommy Knocks, mentioned that when it comes to segregation one thing that worries him is infiltration...me too. But it's hard to fight infiltration when you don't know who is who. At the end of the day, I want to echo the sentiments of Twism13....we do need to change the culture...the question is how do we go about it?
yeah true and I was thinking about it some more and the black race is way too big a group to be aligned on any common interest.

I don't know any other race that would get similarly aligned either. Most of the collaboration you see is amongst people from the same country (i.e. Chinese, Korean, Arabs, etc) You probably couldn't get the Chinese people and Korean people aligned on the same shyt either.

Thats why you see more Jamaican's or Nigerians stick together because at least they have that common culture and country of origin.

I appreciate this point of view, fam but that is not everyone's experience or perspective.

I grew up in the South, in ATL and went to an all black high school. Great black teachers who were able to get through to this former thug in training. :wow:
This school wasn't the best in the state, but it was the best in the county at that time. Pretty high graduation rate for being next door to the hood. Many students, myself included, were able to go on to college and earn degrees. Now I'm in IT. Everyday rocking Polo boots and dreds. Able to swap between urban and corporate vernacular like nothing. Hired during the dam job interview and usurped a white boy's spot right from under him by being a good azz employee. I'm respected around here and when I was told "you know, you are the first black woman this guy's ever hired" I was like, "did he have a choice? I'm the sh1t."

See the thing that will serve our community best is black pride. It is what my pops instilled in me. I never feel like I'm not welcome in the room - its my country too dam it. If this white dude is allowed in the room, so am I. Who gon stop me huh...

:steviej:
ATL is different tho. you can have a rich community and it be all black people.

actually i think ATL, for all the crap it gets, can be a good model for black communities going forward. I see entire thriving communities with mostly black people.

hell some of the suburbs are almost 100% black it seems. and these aren't shytholes either

:lawd:

Been saying this for years....

The eradication of our culture\identity as a people during slavery was just as heinous as all of the physical lynchings\beatings\torment..

A people without an identity will stay lost for a long time, and blacks in America are a people with no identity...

Truth...

I have a few Kenyan friends and I can travel as far as 200 miles in any direction from here, and I can be assured that if I bump into a Kenyan, they know my friends by name......

That's how tight they network....and their culture\identity plays a huge part in their mindset when it comes to accomplishing goals and advancing as a small community within a greater community

This is true. ATL is unique somewhat - but our thriving communities still have the same problems. Still no strong united front like it seems. The community down here is very much divided unfortunately.

i think one thing ATL does right is having all this colleges in the area that creates a population of educated people plus for a lot of black people in the area, going to college is part of your black identity, which is something that is not very common in lets say detroit (ive never been to either city, so correct me if im wrong)

and then when you add the educated black moving in you create a critical mass

so establishing more universities in black cities should be a goal, it creates and attracts educated blacks, maybe some of these HBCU's that are in financial trouble should move into black cities, just an idea

We have a common culture and country of origin too. We are Black Americans, descendants of slaves, children of Jim Crow, Civil Rights Era. No one else can really claim that aside from our Caribbean fam. This is our country too, we built the bulk of this sh1t.

Nah, you are right about the ATL side of it. The AU (Atlanta University) center is a big part of black success here. But right outside of the AU center, is the hoodest of the hoods in ATL. Some of our own brehs and sistas look down on these hoods like they ain't part of our community. I would call them the black bourgeoisie and there is a lot of them.

:scusthov:

Oh and some of those HBCUs are going bankrupt because of corruption and financial mismanagement. Or they are suffering from a huge decrease in admission due to accreditation issues.

That is the double-edged sword here. But at the same time, this is a great place to spark a movement because of all of the black businesses.

It's simple. Just follow the gang model. Invest in the youth, particularly the males. Give them structure, discipline, and a path for income. Keep it non-square as well. Once it's successful everybody else will wanna do it.

I dont necessarily believe in totally separating from other races.

After you have thorough knowledge of self,of your own kind and racial dignity has been instilled within ones self then you can go integrate but still retain your race pride, racial dignity and be able to avoid this sub servient inferiority complex that is instilled in most black ppl who wish to be accepted other races.

Bingo.
