About the playoff discussion,

Have the last 12 years not taught us anything?

Did 2014-15 season not teach us anything?

Fukk the playoffs. If we aint contending for championships then I dont want nothing to do with the playoffs.

Give me as many lottery picks as we can get.
You don’t go from not making the playoffs to championship contenders over night. The problem with those old hawks teams was that they took too long to blow it up. If they somehow go on a crazy run and make the playoffs this year with mostly 1st and second year guys as the core with John missing a third of the season this would bode very well for these guys’ future

But for who? We seem to be set at every position. I’m not big on trading that pick for a 6th man unless it’s a Jamal Crawford type
I’d trade down to get more assets and try to draft somebody with an already defined skillset who can contribute immediately. Look to fill out the roster in free agency and let the core develop while being prepared in case a star demands a trade.

We could lose out and we're still not getting the @#1 pick :mjlol:

We're 8 GB with 24 to play. It would take some ML September pennant race type fukkery for us to get in there but these young buls ain't going out without a fight.

I think we got who we need to win now, minus a 2021 Max FA. We just need to continue to develop. We luck into Ant Man then cool, but Haliburton or Avdija would be Hunter-like complimentary pieces that would possibly mesh better than the more obvious talents.

This team has a higher ceiling than the Iso Joe Hawks ever had. There was never any "potential" with that team. We could be sitting on something special right now. Just have some faith and give it time

This!!! The next time we talkin playoffs I want to be in a position to make a run, fukk being an 8 seed to get slaughtered by the Bucks. I want a legit championship contender and if I gotta wait another year or two I’m cool with that. Like you said gimme another lottery pick or two, I’m good with that over being in that no man’s land where we’re stuck on the mediocre team treadmill for another decade

Exactly. Why do brehs in here want to return back to that status with being a middling playoff seed? :dwillhuh:

LMAO...nikkas want lottery picks just for the fukk of it?? That dont guarantee a run at shyt :russ:. Phoenix, Cleveland (with no Lebron), Orlando, Sacramento, Knicks, Charlotte, Pistons, etc. been at the top of the lottery for years.

You got some weird fascination with draft picks bruh:hhh:

Your star play already told you he ain't tryna sit around through useless seasons and you nikkas still talking bout "Let's tank :gladbron:", for a pick that wont get much playing time being the young core is already in tact.

How bout win fukking games and attract a star free agent???

Some of you nikkas takes are trash

Those are my same 8 keepers. I know everybody else is trash:hhh:

The biggest jump we are going to make on a competitive level is the development of the young talent we stockpiled. The last 4 roster spots should go to great veterans that fit the core.

This is the last year we will be drafting top 10 for the next several years. And quite frankly there isnt a player in this draft that pushes the needle. Now comes the time where you spend money on good vets. Like the warriors did with iggy, Livingston, lee

So what step am I skipping exactly?

@AVXL what prospect in this draft will get the Hawks over the hump?

Of course the ATL
If we were the old team with dennis and dwight running the show of course making the playoffs would be a huge mistake. But when U have this many guys you are commited to long term, any playoff run is taste for whats to come. A couple playoff games would do a lot for this core in terms of experience.

The warriors had a 1st round elimination against the spurs. That experience definitely helped those guys.

If you look at my expectations for this year (just check the first few pages of this thread and the last few of the offseason thread) I told y’all what this year would be. The way this roster was built should tell y’all how the Hawks approached this season and what their expectations are internally. This is a development year with any real playoff talk being held off for at least another year. Let the young guys develop, stop putting these weird expectations of a late season playoff run on the third worst team in the association.

BTW, the fact that we have guys long term makes it ok for us to be patient and develop. We don’t have to be in a rush here

@Kaedus you're my guy but stop with the cliches brother. These are the same Hawks who got blown out by Cleveland right before the All Star break a couple weeks ago. They haven’t always played hard this season, they’ve been up and down all year. Part of that is to be expected because they’re so young but no they don’t consistently play with effort so I can’t let you get away with that statement breh

Didn’t you have a take that we would be a playoff team before the season started? BTW, the core of this team is starting to take shape but you’d have to be a fool to look at this team and think it’s finished. This team still needs talent and depth and if you have the ability to draft a star with a high lottery pick you do that with no questions asked. How does that equate to wanting lottery picks “for the fukk of it”? :dwillhuh: We have the THIRD WORST RECORD in the NBA, you’re getting a top lottery pick regardless.

Talking about trash takes and then having the nerve to say: “hey guys if we win 6 in a row and the other 6 teams ahead of us lose we’ll be a few games back of the 9 seed and things could get interesting” breh please :camby:

I said the Hawks would be in contention for the 8th seed if everyone stayed healthy which proves my point as they're STILL in contention even with Collins missing 25 games and all the other injuries that went on :camby:

Answer the question...who is this player in the draft worth tanking for? I'll answer for you, there isn't one :camby:

@AVXL What star in this draft are you talking about? You fantasizing over this lottery pick like zion in this draft. Name names Breh, you keep talking in circles.

U in here repeating "3rd worst record" and bringing up single games where we played like shyt. No shyt the kids are gonna have their off nights.

There is a real divide in this thread between those of us who actually watch every single game and those who boxscore watch.

The third worst record in the league is real. It’s a fact. And it’s not because of one or two games here and there. Our record is a cumulative effort of our play not for single games and other one offs. And I’ll take Anthony Edwards

So people who disagree with you don’t watch games now? The divide is how this team should be built not this passive aggressive “people who watch games and don’t watch games” nonsense.

BTW, the only way to get a superstar in the NBA is to draft him. Very rarely will they sign with you or be available by trade. So yes the draft is important for finding the next star

I been mixin strands brehs :wow:

We finna ball the fukk out, play some entertaining ass basketball, end up the 10th seed, and then get ping-ponged up to the 4th pick :banderas:

@AVXL 3 games vs NY, Miami, and Dallas >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 1 game vs Cleveland. I'm not letting you get away with trying to piss on our parade. Being up and down doesn't mean you don't have heart. There's no way we win those 3 games the way we did if we didn't have that dog in us. Trae got that dog in him. Cam got that dog in him. John got that dog in him. Hunter got that dog in him. Of course we're gonna be inconsistent when we only have 3 rotation guys born before the Olympics were here and 1 of them is older than the Olympics itself, but I'm gonna take more from 3 4th quarter comebacks, with 2 against current playoff teams, than I am 1 loss on the second night of a back to back right before the break.

You can be pessimistic and hope that all this good mojo goes out the window, our rooks show no development, and we flop the rest of the way just so we can get more ping pong balls that likely won't bounce our way. Me and the rest of the set gonna enjoy the ride and believe that the future is here :manny:

So thats your star? Edwards? Okay I'm gonna chalk that up to you being a UGA homer.

There isnt a star in this draft. That isnt the only way to build a contender. The key part is already done and that was finding Trae.

Also, you can sign for stars or trade for them. Which are both easier to do when u got a guy like Trae who can recruit. Why did KD and kyrie go to BKN, because they were trending upwards and got the 8 seed last year. Why did jimmy butler go to Miami? Same reason as kd and kyrie. Same reason Iggy went to the warriors when they werent that great YET.

That "watching games" comment is for those who look at cam reddish stats for the year and say he's a bum. The ones who "watch" would see the statistical jump he's made every month this season. The squad is trending up even if u want to ignore it. 9-9 in the last 18 games is way better what we looked without Collins or Teague. To bring up 3rd worst record is to ignore the gradual improvement the team has made. The hawks today are not the hawks of November and december
