About the playoff discussion,

Have the last 12 years not taught us anything?

Did 2014-15 season not teach us anything?

Fukk the playoffs. If we aint contending for championships then I dont want nothing to do with the playoffs.

Give me as many lottery picks as we can get.

You saw the standings? We are like within 2-3 games in the win column of being the 9th seed in the east bruh. Right now the Hawks are trending up while teams in front of them are trending down. The Hawks are way more likely to be picking in the middle of the lottery than the top.

I'm rooting for the Hawks to continue winning and gaining confidence.

Confidence doesnt win anything, talent does. We need talent. The absolute worst position to find yourself in the NBA is to be a middling playoff team, not good enough to do anything of note but not bad enough to get a high draft pick.

This!!! The next time we talkin playoffs I want to be in a position to make a run, fukk being an 8 seed to get slaughtered by the Bucks. I want a legit championship contender and if I gotta wait another year or two I’m cool with that. Like you said gimme another lottery pick or two, I’m good with that over being in that no man’s land where we’re stuck on the mediocre team treadmill for another decade

Exactly. Why do brehs in here want to return back to that status with being a middling playoff seed? :dwillhuh:

Y'all really wanna tank for 2 more years?

We accumulated 3 long term starters that have shown great promise. Cam, trae, and hunter. All under 22. Plus huerter, collins and Fernando. We dont need anymore youth.

We filled our biggest hole at center with 2 good players in capela and dedmon. Who are both on good deals.

This is when u fill out the roster with good vets that fit around our core. Now is the time they get minutes and develop. If that leads to us picking in later in this draft, so be it. Thats the core maturing.

We were able to do what the kings and suns have been trying to do for over a decade in just 2 years. I highly doubt anthony edwards or lamelo are the missing piece to a championship

We need a legit 2nd star, not a good player, a star.
Cam reddish is that. Him and hunter have played half a season and because they not averaging 30, they dont have the potential to be that?

I would take both over anyone in this draft. We have a ton of talent, just low on experience. There aint no Bron, AD, or giannis coming out in this draft. Hate to break it to ya.

Breh what I want and what we have are two different things. I want a championship level squad, what we have is one of the worst rosters in the league. You gettin impatient so now you wanna skip steps. fukk that. Hawks got a total of maybe 7-8 players I want on this roster next yr

Trae
John Collins
Cam
Hunter
Huerter
Capela
Dedmon
Teague/Fernando

The rest can kick rocks. This roster is filled with journeymen and just average guys, you talkin like this roster is ready to go make a run. Breh we have no depth outside of what I just listed. People forget it took the Warriors a few drafts to get the right mix of lottery guys and players before they went on their runs. Like @The_Sheff said we’re still at least a second star away & I don’t believe John Collins is that second star. He should be the third best player on a really good team mainly because he can’t create for himself but he’s not the second best player on a playoff team imo

Like I said, realistically this team won’t make the playoffs so that point is moot but hoping they make the playoffs just doesn’t make sense to me for where we’re at as a franchise

I’m def in the minority here but we honestly need to consider trading the pick we get. This team already has enough guys trying to make headway into the nba.

we need vets, the other star you guys are talking about needs to come via trade imo.

Thats actually a really good point and it would largely depend on who you go after in a trade. I think the Hawks need a dynamic wing scorer at either the 2 or 3, obviously we need depth at every position but I’d want at least one draft pick or two to compete to make this roster

@Sly Cookin i do agree that you don’t want a whole lot of young guys next season, I think we saw how this year too many young guys at one time really handicaps what you can do but this team still needs great young talent. I’d only trade our #1 pick if it brought us back a certified star wing player. And I like what Cam has done recently but I’m not ready to say he’s a star player, he’s gotta do it for at least a half of a season before I buy into that

But for who? We seem to be set at every position. I’m not big on trading that pick for a 6th man unless it’s a Jamal Crawford type

Those are my same 8 keepers. I know everybody else is trash:hhh:

The biggest jump we are going to make on a competitive level is the development of the young talent we stockpiled. The last 4 roster spots should go to great veterans that fit the core.

This is the last year we will be drafting top 10 for the next several years. And quite frankly there isnt a player in this draft that pushes the needle. Now comes the time where you spend money on good vets. Like the warriors did with iggy, Livingston, lee

So what step am I skipping exactly?

You want the playoffs in a clear rebuilding year. That’s the step you’re skipping. Don’t be surprised if we don’t make the playoffs next year either. We have a lot of holes on this team breh and adding 5-6 high level, heady NBA vets to this team won’t be easy.

If we were the old team with dennis and dwight running the show of course making the playoffs would be a huge mistake. But when U have this many guys you are commited to long term, any playoff run is taste for whats to come. A couple playoff games would do a lot for this core in terms of experience.

The warriors had a 1st round elimination against the spurs. That experience definitely helped those guys.
