My hometown. You'll enjoy Old Sacramento, The Park, and the dive scene is good. If you head out to old town, the whole surrounding area is really charming at night, especially right at sunset. Try hitting up Folsom Lake if you want something resembling a beach, and it's an extremely cheap train ride to San Francisco if you want to get away for a weekend.

Here is a tinkle of hope when everything looked so bleak. I am honestly staying just west of Sacramento, but I plan to check out all the nearby cities.

San diego, thats about it tho. It was for work so I didn't get to see much of the nightlife

Thing is you're right next to everything. Right between San Francisco area and Tahoe/Reno

Further north is the Humboldt area. Beautiful
Tahoe is fun
Have In-N-Out RIGHT AWAY if you haven't before
Expect to eat lots of Mexican food and to miss it when you leave CA
Las Vegas is probably a 45 minute flight from where you are. Can fly for damn near free if you catch the right deal.
Bars close at 1:30. Meh
Visit the coastline below the San Francisco area. One of the best drives in the world is down the 1 a few hours south of you if you're into that type of thing.
