Off topic question, but do would y’all consider a trini or Guyanese “Indian”? And why do trini’s and Guyanese look like Indians ? I had a Guyanese guy that worked for me explain it to me once, but I don’t remember now, was it something to do with colonization or slavery?

There is three different kinds. (technically just two but they way we often see in america three)

Native Americans -(not really Indians - just a name europeans gave to them)

Indians - (as in people from India)

West Indians - as in people from the west indies or the carribbean basin. (also not really indians, also a name europeans gave to them)

Low Key if i was a native american or a Guyanese person, i would find it disrespectful to be called Indian. basically letting colonizers give you a name instead using the one you called yourselves.

Long story short, after slavery was abolished by the Queen, the fields and industries still needed to be tended to. Britain basically used their resources and other colonies to fill the voids. Indentured servitude as well as just better opportunity in general brought Indians over to the West Indies.

Guyana is home to many races and religions. Native, African, Indian, other nationalities and mixes. Just like any other country you can be Guyanese and have your own ethnicity.
