I did already.

directly & in-depth.

dumbass.

when did I say otherwise?

man you dense as hell.

how was Pony not a hit right away? I remember it being huge not long after school started. and I just looked up the release. its the end of august.

you might be right about the album sales tho. I'm thinking about how big PONY was.
but he went gold and prolly went platinum first, despite Aaliyah having the head start and better label backing. so my point still stands.

youre reaching for straws.

and youre wrong on top of that.

that's not a compliment to janet at all.

that just says, janet is easier to duplicate, so lets settle for her lane.:heh:

You said One In A Million was a slow burner. How was it a slow burner when that shyt went 2x plat in 11 months?

Just stop.

LEARN HOW TO READ.

I said it was a slow burn that took like 5 months to go gold. THEN the sales picked up later on when they did videos for "one in a million" and "4-page letter". but by this point, Ginuwine had already blew up out the water. and he wasn't signed to barry hankerson. so how do you credit Aaliyah for his success??

WHAT THE HELL DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!:mindblown:

Am i the only one who thinks janet is a bit overrated?
I respect that shes an influential grear but to me shes not better than toni braxton let alone whitney.

apparently, shes being overrated by a few of the posters in this thread.

I can say that much.

It did NOT go gold in 4/5 months.

"Pony" did not blow initially out of the gate. That song had programmers scared to play it because it sounded different. Ginuwine's manager talked about it and why it took a minute for Ginuwine to take off. There's a Robert Rieves interview where he not only discusses Ginuwine's album, but also the politics behind Aaliyah and Brandy's sophomore albums.

One In A Million hit Gold October 23, 1996. It was platinum by February 5, 1997. It hit 2X platinum by June 16, 1997. The Bachelor was gold by January 3, 1997. It reached platinum April 8, 1997. It went 2X platinum in 1999.

You said IMPACTFUL. That would be Janet jackson. From the choreography to the socially conscious album Rhythm nation .Janet touched on so many topics in the world and made hits outta them. jam and lewis had that unique minneapolis sound. Janet has live tours that impacted people all over the world. She also was able to have sex appeal without wearing dresses. That wasn't always the case. Im not saying Janet is better but she's definitely more impactful.

Janet is iconic, but yea, it's easier to be a great dancer with ok vocals than to have a voice like Whitney. Janet is fukking Janet, as I said, one of my GOATs, but at the end of the day, yea, she's an easier talent to aspire to :yeshrug:

Janet hands down. From Control to Damita Jo, each album was crafted with a specific theme. Whitney can sing Janet under the table, no question, but Janet made better albums and had a more iconic run. Janet may not be a traditional vocalist but she can do interesting things with her voice that can appeal to the listener. While a weak vocalist, she’s also very malleable in her pitch and tone. See: He Doesn’t Know I’m Alive, Again, The Great Forever, I Get Lonely. A powerhouse like Whitney or Aretha can’t emote the way Janet does on particular tracks.

even if I'm wrong on that, its still a slow burn, particularly for an established act.
and it still didn't really take off like that until the 2nd/3rd singles.

You know what? I apologize for snapping on you in this thread. That’s not my style. And you legitimately come across like you can’t be no older than 17. I ain’t trying to be fighting with nobody’s child online :mjlol:

I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong.

maybe you should follow my lead.

difference is; I'm wrong about a miniscule point that has absolutely nothing to do with the thread topic(nor did it go against my point). meanwhile, youre wrong about almost everything.

P.S. another difference between me & you is that I don't have to pretend that I was around. I was posting on this board 17 years ago, so how could I possibly be no older than 17???

You do realize that nobody in this thread is agreeing with your main point. No? Lol. I can admit when I’m wrong whenever I need to. But ain’t no need for it here because I’m 100% right in here lol.

All you had to do from the jump was saying your personal dislike/hate for Janet is why you go so hard to discredit her. And this whole back and forth could have been avoided. Even though you called me a dumbass first, I shouldn’t have went off the way I did. We can just agree that both are influential and GOATs for different reasons. Is this agreeable to you?

bolded is a lie.
shoot, one example is the person you dapped - who was agreeing with me. are you really trying to go in circles?

I already stated I preferred janet over whitney. so where does my dislike/hate for janet come from? youre just mad because you didn't know what you were talking about most of the time.

then you got all happy when I was wrong about the sales for an album by an artist that has nothing to do with this thread. like that makes us even.

Not one thing I said in here was wrong.

The whole point of my argument was Whitney fell in line with Janet’s influence. Whitney got a lot of flack for being too pop/commercialized. That is a fact, bruh. When she started doing new jack swing as an effort to toughen her image up, she took a page from Janet’s book, who had done two new jack swing sounding albums prior to Whitney doing it. That is also a fact.

Where exactly am I wrong?
