Not one thing I said in here was wrong.

The whole point of my argument was Whitney fell in line with Janet’s influence. Whitney got a lot of flack for being too pop/commercialized. That is a fact, bruh. When she started doing new jack swing as an effort to toughen her image up, she took a page from Janet’s book, who had done two new jack swing sounding albums prior to Whitney doing it. That is also a fact.

Where exactly am I wrong?

now, I'll admit Whitney got the bigger big hits and one of the GOAT voices,

But Janet damn near the blueprint for the female urban song and dance act.

It's prolly not a coincidence Whitney dropped an album with more of an.... "edge" in 1990 after Rhythm Nation dropped the year before.

And yeah, it's true Whitney went on to become a MEGA mega star when The Bodyguard dropped, her style of music was more her lane.

Janet's style of music and showmanship changed the game and almost singlehandedly created a lane that may be almost 1 lane at this point, but folks still driving on it.

as for the bolded - youre ignoring the fact that whitney was dating the edgiest singer in all of r&b at the time in bobby brown. he also kicked janet to the curb and literally out of his bed.

crediting janet for the direction of that whitney album is an extremely lazy observation.
the landscape of r&b PERIOD became edgier during this time thanks to new jack swing, the influence of hip-hop and yea, the main face of it was bobby brown. plus, whitney had to quiet her critics. clive had these cards in the deck already.

btw, @ghetto dreams, rhythm nation is when janet hopped on the new jack swing wave. she was no pioneer.

besides, people speaking in favor of janet are mostly saying shes more influential or they prefer her music. only a few people came out and said that janet was more impactful.

and nah, I'm not into white award shows. i'll be watching 'saints & sinners', Unsung & the playoffs.
