yea, Aaliyah dropped first, but Ginuwine's album blew up first. also, Ginuwine had a deal over at Epic. he wasn't signed to Aaliyah's uncle. do ya googles.

the "one in a million" album was a slow-burn and took like 4-5 months to go gold. the sales-spike came later when they dropped videos for "one in a million"(the song) and "4-page letter".

meanwhile, Ginuwine's album blew up huge out the gate with PONY. people forget he was the biggest draw when the crew was together...........well you didn't forget. you weren't around.

Even crazier is that "One In A Million" is one of Ginuwine's first appearances in a video. Aaliyah's album was the catalyst for that whole crew blowing up. Almost everything that came from that crew from that point on was huge.

And just to connect this back to Janet and Whitney, Timbaland and Missy's work on Aaliyah's album is what led to Janet and Whitney working with one or both of them. Janet and Whitney were fans of Aaliyah.

It's prolly not a coincidence Whitney dropped an album with more of an.... "edge" in 1990 after Rhythm Nation dropped the year before.

And yeah, it's true Whitney went on to become a MEGA mega star when The Bodyguard dropped, her style of music was more her lane.

Janet's style of music and showmanship changed the game and almost singlehandedly created a lane that may be almost 1 lane at this point, but folks still driving on it.

how was Pony not a hit right away? I remember it being huge not long after school started. and I just looked up the release. its the end of august.
