its been awhile since i played Gen 1 but its not hard to push thought the water and Electric gym B had me Nidorina and the male version to

I always got Charmander and trained it to the level it learned Metal Claw
got a Pidgey and trained it after the 1st badge against those bug catcher dudes
find and catch a Pikachu which took a long ass time
and i used to catched Weedles so i could get a butterfree cause Ash had a butterfree
i used the Eevee that you get in Celadon City and turn it to a Vaporeon
then i'd get a Dratini in the Safari zone
