was it always like that?

muhammad ali lost 5 times.

the fabolous four of the 80's are still remembered to this day. obviously they had to take losses when you do a round robin like that.
The Mayweather Effect

Floyd built a legacy on the fact that he never lost/loses, held it dear to himself, and became (arguably) the biggest star the sport's ever seen. The amount of people who "watch boxing" but ONLY know Floyd Mayweather is astonishing, particularly in the mainstream media.

Before that, the biggest star in the game at a particular point had all lost. Roy Jones lost. Oscar lost and was still the top draw in the sport afterwards. Tyson, Holyfield, and Lewis all lost and were still at or near the top of the sport's popularity. Now that game has changed.

Having watched both these guys as ringside media for several years (GGG vs. Rosado, Lemiuex and Jacobs, Canelo vs. Jose Cotto, Mosley, Mayweather, Khan), I'm picking GGG by TKO in the 8th. I feel Canelo's comp for the last year while marinating this fight has done him a disservice and he won't handle GGG's power and size as well as he could have. I expect the last few rounds to be ugly with his corner saving him.

boxers and boxing people know how skilled canelo is. the kid is gifted:yeshrug:......from what i've seen pretty much everybody said the fight can go either way, even if they picked a winner. damn near everybody is having a tough time predicting this one because of all the different variables.

I saw an interview from a guy that sparred both of them. He pretty much confirmed what I suspected. He said that perhaps Canelo is more skilled, but it's not some wide gap that people are expecting it to be. He said GGG was very skilled, but it's hard to tell from the outside looking in. GGG has over 300 amateurs fights right? He definitely has something.

So @GzUp @patscorpio got GGG.....I'm still undecided. I'l wait a few more hours before making that choice
What? :mjlol: breh this fight has been the same since Canelo called Triple G into the ring after Kahn. Only difference is it's Canelo's first real fight at 160, how have you not made a decision by now?

I personally believe if the Castillo decision didn't go his way, he still would have went on the accomplish these things.

The thing is the casual fans don't know anything about his career when he was PBF. In their eyes, his career started with the Oscar fight. Therefore, an actual loss would have been more detrimental when he was Money Mayweather. People would have still paid to see him lose.

The same thing with Pacquiao. It was like none of his losses prior to the Oscar fight even existed.

This is one thing I don't understand about the dislike for Canelo. He 'avoided' 154 killers like Diet Charlo or Andrade (but fought and beat Lara) to go up to the soft touch of Triple G, with his first fight at 160? Sounds like the old Floyd narrative. There's no way he'll fight Lara! Fights him. Okay but there's no way he'll fight Triple G, he's shook. Is about to fight Triple G. Do you see where your logic is flawed breh? Plus like 9 people dapped that? SMH

Nawl I dnt see what's wrong with my logic. Canelo been fighting handpicked opponents his whole career minus Lara running ass who is quite overrated his damn self. Let me tell you why GGG is a more appealing fight than the other cats. 1-most money he can make. 2- he think GGG has lost a step and plus GGG last 2 fights he looked just regular. 3- GGG style play into his hands even more than Charlo and Andrade. 4 He had his most trouble with black "slick" boxers. 5. Losing to GGG is less damaging than losing to Charlo or Andrade type. 6. He had to fight GGG sooner or later or his rep would have taken a major hit.

Y'all need to stop drinking that koolaid. One reason he didn't want to have a belt because he would've had mandatories. He couldn't fight who he wanted all the time.

Canelo is a good fighter no doubt and he very well may beat GGG but he is waaay overrated.

Nah little g definitely has skill. Nobody's denying that. I just feel it's been overstated due to his competition. When he started facing more skilled guys he hasn't really impressed much. He was down not he cards vs brook and he lost to Jacobs imo. But still, I consider little g to be a technical pressure fighter. A very good fighter but he's got major flaws that I think canelo is gonna exploit. And I think canelo's speed is gonna have him very frustrated. He's never had to deal with this kind of speed and counter punching.

All the trash talk ends tonight @((ReFleX))...the fight is finally here:wow:

Hopefully #FOTY quality and both Golovkin & Alvarez fight the best fight of their careers tonight in a classic fight :banderas:
No matter happens I know both guys are gonna put everything they got in the ring. And this will be a great one. I still got canelo taking this in dramatic fashion. He's gonna shock the world by what he does tonight. But obviously one mistake can change everything. But I believe he's gonna rise to the occasion and prove a lot of people wrong.

I agree with you as well. I think Mayweather could have lost, avenged said loss, and came back as big as ever and gotten back to being as big as he did. I for one even think if he loses after becoming Money, if it was the right guy and he came back to win, he still is the huge PPV draw. But I also think that because he never lost and the importance he personally placed on it and from there his fan base did, that he has a significant number of mainstream fans -- who are really his fans and fans of major events as opposed to true boxing fans -- think you're either undefeated or you ain't shyt.
