So with the Dodgers getting Shohei Ohtani and apparently aggressively pursuing Tyler Glasnow, I would imagine that eliminates them as a contender to land Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
If this CBS report is to be trusted, the Dodgers remain in the hunt:
Yamamoto, 25, should command a $300M deal before throwing a pitch in the majors

But if Yamamoto is looking at a 300M deal, it's asking a hell of a lot out of LA to drop 1 billion dollars in FA in one winter.
It would be strange to me that the Mets could commit that much money on Yamamoto after trying to go all-in on 2023 and admitting defeat by trading away Verlander and Scherzer. But Steve Cohen seems like the kind of owner who doesn't care about money.
It will look really bad in the Bronx though if they lose Yamamoto to the Mets. Maybe as Yankees fans we feel as though any high priced player is destined to play for us but nothing is guaranteed these days.
