Puffy us good as using people. Simple as that. Dre can produce for Westcoast or Eastcoast acts. Puffy could never be a stand out for a aspiring Westcoast act.

The same Dre that's used a ton of ghost producers behind him all these years? He really shouldn't have said anything because he's just as guilty with the sampling. I don't even need to post the Dre track lol

You do know Ultramagnetic MC's and EPMD sampled this first, right?

And the California Love remix used the same exact sample that Diamond D used for "Confused"

Puffy never sampled shyt...as he don’t make beats. Dude shouldn’t even be in the conversation with Dre. In the case of people sampling shyt and not doing much to it or not chopping nothing up....who’s more skilled, the person that says sample this? Or the person that says sample this AND physically makes the beat? It don’t matter if Dre looped some shyt, did nothing and pressed export. Puffy ain’t even doing that. I can’t honor that. Everyone knows Dre has the reputation of a technician in the studio. What the fukk is Puffy doing? Smh, Dre probably insulted at all this talk of him and Puff

If I bring you a record to sample, that is a production credit. Especially if I'm telling you how I want it to sound. This is why the Pete Rock version isn't on Ready To Die. The version he did wasn't polished enough. Puff brought that sample to the Trackmasters and they did what they do best. It isn't as raw as Pete Rock's version and sounds more "made for radio". Puff didn't manually do anything, but we see how his involvement changed the record and the course of his and Biggie's careers.

Things with Puff are definitely egregious cases. Yeah, you can find examples of this I'm sure in most producer's catalog somewhere, but I have no stronger connection with lazy sampling than music related to Puff.
