His own greed + snake nature did him in. He used Avon's platform to do dirt against his own boss and he didn't have anything built for himself, he would've gone down sooner or later.
On my second watch, Marlo essentially became my favorite character. But, I do think you're giving him a bit too much credit with the lawyers. It's not so much that he didn't trust them as he didn't really understand that whole world. Unlike Stringer, though, he knew what he was which is where I agree with you. He did absorb knowledge over time.

No. Stringer made moves under the authorization of Avon. That's why when Avon was locked up everybody gave Stringer the stank face when he was bossing them around. Avon said something it was done. String was an assistant manager.
Partners have say so in the business aspect of things. Anytime something went wrong Stringer was shook to tell Avon. Whenever they needed a new connect he had to ask Avons permission to get with Prop Joe. He was Avons right hand but they were never equal.
stringer was my fav....I thought he was the brain behind that shyt. that nikka could be a ceo somewhere else...he really didn't fit in the drug game like that. but yeah he wasn't the overall boss even though I preferred him.
and nikkas underrated prop joe. that nikka was also a street genius. would still be alive if his fakkit ass nephew wouldn't have sold him out to marlo.
and marlo is just a straight street beast. nikka was emotionless and a cold blooded killa. the ironic thing is at the end, marlo was giving everything that stringer wanted....but marlo didn't want that. he wanted people to remember his "name".
