Ladies and gentlemen of the tri-country area, this concludes our 2017 annual apocalypse preparedness exercise. We'd like to thank those who participated this year, especially those who went further into debt propping up the local economy. Also, a special thank you to those with small children who had to sit in cars for almost a day, you guys make it seem so real. You guys are the reason we get better at this each year. This year the ride back south may be a bit longer than usual, so make to purchase extra bottles of water. And while you may not get paid for the days you could not work, hope your employer understands and allows you to keep your job if you don't make it back in time. Thank you. Now we hand it off to Angie for a traffic update, Angie?

I just want to know what makes em think it will curve up???:ohhh:

Anyone has explanations, serious no trolling... like why not have a prediction of it going straight to the gulf???

Hurricanes are steered by the weather patterns and it takes the path of least resistance. A front came in from the West which is what will cause the storm to turn N and not enter the Gulf. There is an upper level the trough to the NE right around the GA and FL line off the coast. So the path of least resistance is right up the alley between the front and trough which unfortunately is Florida. The trough is stronger than they thought it would be which is why the storm has gone more westerly. If Irma was to pierce the front and head into the Gulf I believe it would be the first time in history a hurricane ever did so.

Ocean currents can also affect the path of a hurricane. It's all really complicated
