:dwillhuh:. Biden's proposal is literally $1400 checks, in part because the $600 already went out. How is that being 'coy'?
:aicmon:

"If you send Jon and the Reverend to Washington, those $2,000 checks will go out the door, restoring hope and decency and honor for so many people who are struggling right now," Biden said, making his closing argument for the Democrats at a campaign event in Atlanta on Monday.

And $600 + $1400 = $2000.

This is first grade math.

Bruh, they were campaigning $2K checks. Sure, some people understood the $1400 on top of the $600 is what they were talking about but if that was the case, Biden, warnock on ossoff should of kept it 100 and said "we will add $1400 on top of the $600 already approved."

I'm sure people in GA want a straight up $2K check and will feel duped if they don't get it.

The CASH ACT that passed the House in December increased the checks from $600 to $2000 by adding $1400.

That’s what Biden’s plan does.

But the optics are bad because Warnock and Ossoff and Biden himself campaigned on $2k.

The House needs to put a stand a lone bill of $2k checks and money for the vaccines. This will pass easily and it will get 60 votes in the Senate. If not, you go budget reconciliation.

Show me where he says he's going to add $2000 to the already existing $600.
Maybe you understand and like wonk speak, but most voters don't. You can't run with ads saying $2,000, give speeches saying "we will give you $2,000" and then turn around and say "we really meant..."

That's how people get sick of government and vote in people like Trump. They are losing the messaging campaign on this based on their own words. The GOP didn't do anything. You need to break out of the political speak world and think about how this looks to regular people.

You can't do that, because nobody ever said that, and it was never a part of the conversation.

You're overestimating voters. I really don't understand why so many people continue to do that after Trump got elected :dwillhuh: and nearly got elected again

The average voter heard $2000, expects a $2000 check, and wasn't paying attention to the rest of the convo. You and I may know what was meant but people who post on a political forum aren't average voters.

They probaby should've just said "an additional $1400" or something.

:mjlol:. How am I trolling?

All I'm saying is that the $1400 is not a 'lie' or 'misdirection' or 'bait and switch' because the proposal was always $2000, not $2600, not an additional $2000 on top of what already went out, but $2000.

Should it be an additional $2000 on top of the $600? Absolutely. I just don't agree that they pulled a fast one on anybody. If that $600 never went out, or if the Senate passed the CASH act, it would have been maxed at $2000.

That said, this is merely a proposal based on what Biden (perhaps naively) thought would pass quickly with enough bipartisan support. The GOP already told him to fukk off, and Psaki indicated that it wasn't a absolute maximum, so hopefully the dems will not be so conservative in their stimulus push going forward.

The conversation was always upping the $600 to $2000 because the $600 wasn't enough.

There was never a discussion about a separate $2000 check until after Biden's proposal (keyword: proposal) came out because people didn't know how to add.
Right but this is on shytty messaging. Warnock and Ossoff both tweeted "$2,000 checks now." A lot of people were always going to take that as a 2,000 check being cut not a boost of $1,400 on top of the $600. I personally feel like this won't matter so long as this isn't the only check the Dems cut but if it is people who don't read too much into police proposals (most people) are gong to feel they were shorted
