Because they ran on 2k checks. They ran on it in Georgia even after the $600 checks got passed. If you've removed the obstacle of the filibuster, why not just keep the promise you made literally 2 weeks ago? They have the American people on their side on this issue, there's no conceivable reason to water it down. It's just going to turn all these new voters into cynical voters right off the bat.
They ran on raising the $600 to $2000. A separate $2000 check on top of the $600 was never a part of the conversation. If the $600 hadn't gone out yet, or Mitch hadn't blocked the bill to raise the checks, it would have still been only $2000. Adding the $1400 to the $600 is them keeping the promise of $2000. People are only fake outraged because they either don't know how to add or they just want to be outraged at the Dems.
If they actually remove the filibuster, then I agree wholeheartedly, go for the full $2000. But with it in place, the GOP will try to spin that as, "Another whole $2000 is a liberal socialist wishlist because we already passed $600. " Adding the $1400 to the already existing $600 allows the Dems to go, "We tried to compromise, but the GOP are still being obstructionist fakkits. "
Whether the Democrats actually take advantage of that messaging is another story.
