Its like Phil said. They lost the worst generation for them to lose with the Xbox One. They needed to capitalize on $600 US dollars and press on Sony's throat. Instead they found a little success and let up on the gas. The rest is history.Microsoft doesn’t have a core identity, thats its core problem.
The number one thing it has going for it is bargain bargain bargains!!! People don’t care about that shyt, they want premium and expensive technology with big games attached to it.
Nintendo has the biggest IP in gaming and they know what they are, a gaming company. Microsoft is like that adult thats still starting and quitting hobbies every month, and then letting all the money they spent on it go to waste.

Now, they're stuck trying to appeal to a demographic that already has a product they like. It's like Samsung trying to recreate the iPhone on Android. iPhone users are already pleased with what they have, so you are not really gonna reach them.
Because of leadership. They viewed the Xbox as a way to get into your living room and sell you other stuff. They viewed it as the center of your entertainment hub in the living room. They weren't out trying to make the best gaming product possible. As a result of that they didn't invest in game development like they should.
This is simply the chickens coming home to roost. They went so long not investing in game studios and relying on Forza, Halo, and Gears that they've ran the well dry on excitement for their brand. This isn't going to stop until they start putting out a string of critically acclaimed games several in a row not counting stuff like Forza which most are immune to.
To be fair, hooking up a console to a 75 inch TV and taking several minutes to start up a game is kinda outdated
I don't think it is at all. The problem is the execution isn't there. They putting out games like Redfall. Even with Starfield it was ok but they needed it to be more than ok. This company has like 50 studios now and in that number they have some very talented ones like Double Fine and Arkane Lyon that have proven they can make GOTY level games. Ninja Theory isn't that far off either. It's too late

This is the same industry where Nintendo put out a system that sold 14 million units and the next generation sold 132 million. It's not about it being too late or engrained it's about execution. It's too engrained at this point. You have entire continents that don't fukk with Xbox
It's over man.
Ninja Theory is aite but Hellblade 2 is not gonna make people buy an Xbox. Arkane is good but they're coming off of garbage Redfall.
It's done
The Nintendo Switch is basically a sidepiece that lets you do whatever deviant activities you want with her wherever you want, will never call your girlfriend and blow up your spot and never ask for more.
In all seriousness tho
Basically the way the Switch is priced it. It is no more expensive than an Ipad. Has a great library of 1st party games. A good amount of respectable ports and a very friendly platform for Indie gaming.

I would say at this point they need to be planning their exit strategy with the Xbox Series consoles. Give them 2 more years tops and move on to the next hardware. 5 years is enough time for them.
The Xbox Series consoles are failed products. Giving them 5 years isn't cutting them off early. Plenty of consoles have had 5 year lifespans so that's not abnormal at all. Due to the nature of xCloud Xbox Series owners who sub to Game Pass won't truly be left behind because they can play the next generation games on xCloud.I don’t really see what good cutting off their console early is going to do other than piss people off. The games that are in production at this point are probably just going to be hitting in 2025/2026 and they won’t drop the 30m series consoles to sell to an even smaller market.
I think microsoft continuing to acquire more and increase the size of their studios in this way while cutting off large revenue sources (nintendo and playstation) will end badly for them. They need to become platform agnostic if they want these studios to be profitable. Making Bethesda games exclusive to xbox isn’t really helping to sell Xbox’s either.
Activision sought out sony for marketing not because they wanted extra money but because in order for COD to continue being profitable they had to let someone else take the hit on marketing, now Microsoft has to do all the marketing and pay for development, to what… put it on gamepass? I think it’s going to be very interesting to see how this works out for them.
People talk about Skyrim sales and that was released on every. Single. Platform. Numerous times over the last 12 years. Starfield can’t be re-released at this point since it’s exclusive to two platforms with BC.
