You can’t get the current model of the PS5 at any real discount. At best you get a free game. They’ve only discontinued the old model to get rid of them.

Microsoft had the Diablo IV model Series X for $450 with a $75 gift card. That’s almost $185 in value. That’s crazy. You don’t see any other company giving away that much value with a purchase.

The only reason they’re giving away so much is because the parent company can easily eat that loss. Hell are they even profitable on selling the hardware yet?
Again, sony was discounting the PS5 all year(and last??) it’s why their profitability has taken a hit.

You guys just make up these narratives in your head

So PlayStation supposedly started making profit on there hardware, then instantly started running discounts to negate that profit, to turn around and make a slim version that's technically digital only but that they sell with an attachable disc drive that's supposedly cheaper to make than the OG version?

To what end is this goal? To sell y'all another PS5 pro in 2-3 years?

It’s to make sure everyone who’s gonna buy a ps5 this generation buys it within the next two years. While Microsoft figures out how to sell subscriptions to steam users lol

They have to. When the Xbox came out it was already stated that they are losing between $120 and $150 per console to keep the price down. They said years ago they needed Gamepass to make up the difference.

They have to sell consoles to increase subscriptions. The ceiling for pc users leaving steam is extremely low. Digital libraries are probably more important to pc users than they are for console users and we all know from Phil himself people are already entrenched where They’ve spent the most of their money last generation.

The vast majority of gamepass users are going to be through console. Console sale are more important for them then it is anyone else.

Nobody making up anything. The Series X came with a free game at a discount to even the normal price of a Series X with no game and on top of that a free gift card.

Nintendo not doing that. Sony not doing that. The bundle is the base price of the console for both. You getting a free game and no gift card on either.

Fixed.

Either way the people willing to buy Nintendo products don't have Sony or Microsoft ownership impact that decision. Nintendo isn't really operating under the same limits Microsoft is. If Microsoft sells an Xbox there's a high chance it came at the expense of someone buying a PlayStation. If Nintendo sells a Switch it doesn't really matter what else the buyer owns.
Truth.

People buy Xbox or PS AND a Switch.

Microsoft is what happens when none of your leadership has a feel or passion for games. They are clueless to what gamers actually want because they don't like games themselves. It's just a bunch of suits looking at spreadsheets making decisions.
Like Jim Ryan right

On top of that having a feel or passion for games doesn't equate to leading a business. You hire those sort of people to be creators. Nadella is a fine CEO. He took a company Ballmer wrecked and made it one of the most valuable companies in the world. Yeah he's not a gamer but he is totally onboard for Microsoft pursuing games. I think Spencer is kinda a gamer.

I'm confused because I'm seeing responses that doesn't address the question.

In terms of the year so far, Xbox should've sold more consoles than it has.

Four big first party exclusives were released as opposed to Sony's one (I'm excluding 3rd party and VR titles).

Hifi Rush was lauded but didn't move the needle. Redfall was universally panned. GOTG™ didn't sell any consoles despite having a ton of "engagement". And Forza Motorsport it's doing ok.

Plus they finally got ABK. Now with all of that, Xbox is selling less than the Switch which is on its way out.

It funny becuase when you view it through this lens it looks like microsoft crushed Sony in game output but the reality is…look at the GOTY nominees…4 of them are on playsation, and as of right now two of them are exclusive to playstation 5 consoles.

Redfall - disaster
Starfield - let down
Forza - came and went (didn’t even get microsoft PR about player counts)
Hi Fi Rush - great game, no promotion or marketing for it. They treated it like 3d tetris

On PS5 -

Octopath 2
Final Fantasy XVI
Baldur’s Gate 3
Spider-Man 2

Theres almost no denying the second list is way more compelling even in an off year than the former and thats after microsoft taking a year off after releasing just a halo and forza game for this generation. Microsoft still haven’t given people a good reason to buy their consoles over a PlayStation or nintendo or for pc players to care at all.
