How soon until the NFL makes this mandatory for players in games?

there not spearing each other because they dont have 30-40 seconds in between plays to rest

They're still going at each other like crash test dummies though. Their technique is a lot better because they know they can't lead with their heads. If you watch this video these hits are brutal but these dudes are leading with their shoulder at impact

Yup, the 1904 season when 18 high school and college players died in a single year (back when the US population was a small fraction of what it is today).
To be fair though, the main tactic back then was to interlink arms as a whole squad and charge the other team. That led to a bunch of trampling deaths and repeated blunt force trauma when you'd get hit by the force of a moving car when you had the ball and squeezed in a mass of bodies

Probably taught incorrect technique at the youth level and up.

When I played from pop warner to HS, my coaches used to tell us to put our facemask into people's chest. This was in the 90's well before concussions was discussed like it is today.

Cats think that Burfict is going to launch his head at Antonio Brown the same way if there was no helmets. This play never happens in a no helmet league. We all played Pickup Football growing up with no helmets and nobody ever got a concussion because we didn't run like crash test dummies.

The play that turned A.B. into a mental head case. :picard:

Seriously… What does a helmet protect other than bruising? The advent of the helmet we know today came from players faces getting beat up. What are you did, unknowingly was speed up the game, create greater collisions and more concussions :manny:

Answer the question. What does football helmets do but protect people from facial and head scarring? That is the main reason why the helmet that we see today was created. Guys were getting broken teeth, jaws, eyesockets all fukked up. That’s why the helmet was created. But other than that it doesn’t protect you from brain trauma and actually made it more of an issue because with the facial and scarring protection, impacts and collisions between deadlier and more head trauma became the result. You need to peep the evolution of why helmets came to be.

The only thing helmets protect are scarring and broken facial parts. But it has helped to INCREASE brain injuries as a result of “that” protection giving players liberty to use their heads more recklessly in making or breaking tackles

I don’t understand what you’re not getting.

Football was nearly banned as a sport by President Teddy Roosevelt in the days before helmets due to all the deaths. :skip:

Article gives some context to those numbers -

If you're the kind of person who needs a final number of things, that's 20 people in 1905 whose deaths were, in some way, associated with the playing of football. But it's not so simple. How should we count the knee infection that, though it occurred during a football game, clearly would not have resulted in death with access to modern medicine? How should we count a kid who had a weed go up his goddamn nose?

Even the deaths from actual football injuries bear more scrutiny. A man getting jumped on by 10 other men, none of whom has padding, none of whom is restrained by any rules other than those governed by his conscience, is far removed from the game and controversy we are considering today.

The NFL won't do that....fact is, there is a certain psychology within their fanbase that enjoys this sort of stuff

Yep. Notice football took off when those helmets came in to play. The collisions were like nothing seen before.

They should just do away with helmets. They should study if Rugby players have the same rate of concussion as football players.
