Was at the gym 2 days ago and some nikka had 225 on there without clamping the weights on. The two on the right side slid right on off. I don’t know how e avoided it, but he’s lucky he didn’t get hurt.

I’m usually by myself, so I’m not trying to do no more than I can handle. 225 is my max, but I’m comfortably doing 185. I weigh 180 lbs
I never put the clamps on. even when I go up to 405.

Someone said it on here before as it holds true, 225 is the minimum to be considered a gym guy. It not really impressive but it demands respect because it shows others that you’re serious about it. Oddly, there are fewer and fewer (and this maybe because I go to a commercial gym) people really putting up 225 and higher. My max is 300 and I usually don’t do barbell exercises.

This is true and I think it's due to the popularity of the 5x5 strong fit program.

Deads, squats, and overhead press have made a huge comeback and it's easier to get big numbers in the first 2 exercises than it is with bench or overhead press.

Pushups produce a better mind/muscle connection for me. When I bench press its more of an arms and shoulders workout.

Weighted pushups are the king of chest building exercises IMO. After that its weighted dips. And then I might try some cable crosses or dumbell presses before I think about the bench.
Nah I disagree

No duck tales but I’m not sure 20 pull ups is that elite . It’s definitely above average but i time above who been in a gym for like five years should be about to do that

i was doing that no problem pre pandemic, wide grip too

nor is 10 reps of 225. I think the most i got to was like 12
20 pull-ups straight is elite for sure I hardly ever see anyone doing that.

225 10 times is really good but again I think 225 15+ times is considered elite

Not sure, probably 25-30

The only thing in a similar rep range to this i've one is 200lb dumbbell benchpress for 30 reps.

And in my opinion, 200lb dumbbell bench is harder than 225 barbell bench

Of course it is a 200lb dumbbell bench is like a 315 bench or more

225 for 15 is my usual. My pr is 335. Pyramid sets and drop sets are the best for building up your bench.....also don’t do bench the day after you killed triceps or shoulder as your lifts won’t be as strong since bench press uses shoulders and triceps as well as primarily working the pectoral

Eh, i wouldn't say it feels like 315, but yeah its harder 225 for sure.
I haven't tried to max rep 315, but i sincerely doubt I could even do 15 reps on it.

My goal is to put up 400 by the end of the year :banderas:
I’m saying right now I can dumbbell press the 120’s for 4 and hit 225 15 times and my max is like 295,the 200’s are definitely equivalent to a 315+ bench press
