20 reps at 225 is an achievable goal of you've been benching for 10+ years.

Bench press isn't my thing, but from everything I've heard, doesn't strength progress begin to plateau after 3 years? Don't most natural lifters make most of their gains in the first 3-4 years and after that its about cranking out minimal gains? And isn't the bench press one of the hardest exercises to keep progressing at once you reach a certain strength level?

I'm not saying 225 is that max. Just that you can't keep adding weight or reps to the bar infinitely simply because you keep training. At a certain point you will reach your natural limit.

All I know is every year we have the NFL combine. And outside of the huge NFL players (like lineman and linebackers), most RBs, WRs, and DBs ain't hitting 20 reps at 225. And those guys weigh roughly as much the average guy weighs despite having significantly more muscle mass and less fat. If barely any of them can do it with 4+ years of serious training and elite genetics, then how can claim this should be easily attainable for the average guy?

I'm definitely not weak. I just don't even do silly exercises like the bench press. I train exclusively with calisthenics movements (i.e. pushups, pullups, dips, and squats). You know movements that build functional strength.

All I'm saying is the average guy is probably not as fit as elite NFL RBs. We know based on the combine each year that many of those guys can barely max out at 10 reps on the 225 bench press. Thus its highly unlikely the average Coli poster is doing that.

Its like guys who claim they can easily do 30+ pullups in a row when in reality that is world class caliber pullup endurance. Guys who focus exclusively on calisthenics can barely do that but we have random posters who don't even do calisthenics regularly claiming they can.

That's not true at all lol

I'm a Ravens fan so I did a quick lookup of jk dobbins (our rookie) and he threw up 225 23 times. 20 reps is the usual number that you hear for running backs at the combine. You found the outlier with that panthers guy.

No duck tales but I’m not sure 20 pull ups is that elite . It’s definitely above average but i time above who been in a gym for like five years should be about to do that

i was doing that no problem pre pandemic, wide grip too

20 real pullups. Head above the bar. No swinging or use of momentum.

Very few can do that. If you can kudos to you. But I have seen guys with really good physiques that actually do calisthenics barely hit 25+. So excuse me for not believing random guys who don't even train primarily for pullups claiming they can hit those numbers.

And FYI the biggest issue with hitting high pullup numbers isn't issues of strength but rather GRIP. Once you start approaching 20+ pullups the pain in your hands from hanging onto the bar will cause you to quit before your muscles. That is why specifically training for higher reps is required and you can't solely rely on a transfer of strength.

Okay. But most RBs are around 215-220 lbs. The average guy is around 190 lbs. I was comparing him more to the average NFL prospect in that range which is why I cited Christian McCaffrey who weighs 200 lbs.

The average NFL player under 200 lbs ain't lifting 20+ reps.

Yeah you mainly slow down after you hit 27 but you can still progress.

Antonio brown benching and he's not even a big receiver like them big ass wide-outs on the titans.
And I swear to you that most rbs that get drafted are hitting 225 for 20 reps.

AJ dillon is another rookie rb that I randomly looked up and he did 30 reps at 225.

Find me a rookie running back from 2020 that did 10 or less reps that got drafted. That is something that would definitely make headlines because most teams won't think you are strong enough to handle that position in the pros

Lineman’s like tackles guards n dt’s are all around

Eh, i wouldn't say it feels like 315, but yeah its harder 225 for sure.
I haven't tried to max rep 315, but i sincerely doubt I could even do 15 reps on it.

My goal is to put up 400 by the end of the year :banderas:

Max rep 315? Are you saying that your max rep is 315 or you can max out on 315?

15 reps? I would pay 100 to see that right now.

My max is 7 reps on 365, from October or September 2020. I dont try to do max weight often, maybe 4 times a year?

My post is saying that I could not do 15 reps of 315. Even 10 reps on 315 is something I can only do on a good day.

I also weigh 260lbs
