Ain’t nothing more of a pride killer than getting that bar stuck on your chest and having to get a struggle help out to get someone over.

I took a 3/4 month break from the gym after that, and it’s why I lift what I know I can handle easily by myself
Such a humbling experience. I also learned my lesson about trying to get that extra rep if I don't have a spotter. Gotta know your limits and error on the side of caution.

lol once maybe? to be honest i've never been strong on the bench press at all

but on the flip side i do dumbbell presses with heavy weight on flat, incline & decline with no issues. i honestly think i have a mental block or even some fear when it comes to the bar which makes me sound lame

i have the same exact issues with squats, can't stand that bar on my neck even with padding or a fluffy towel. it really hurts me for some reason. so instead i do the leg press machine and a gang of dumbbell squats for my quads along with hella extensions squeezing on every rep. it works but deep down i know i'd really benefit from traditional benching & squats.. just can't do it though
Leg press cant hit the same muscles as a swat so you taking in L on that. Try deadlifting or squating with dumbells.

Speaking of dbell benching, most ppl fear them because they arent stable. I could bench 80w/ effort but if i dont focus its rip to my skull. But you dumbell bench exclusively

Right now I can hit 250 for 5 reps, used to be able to hit 315, but I stopped doing bench press with a bar for a long time. My left shoulder was hurt in an accident and hasn’t been the same since. I don’t feel comfortable going heavier and blowing out my shoulder.

Keep at it. You trying to put on weight? Im 165-170ish and over 200 is amazing for 155
I care more about being stronger and looking better than putting on weight since I don't want to put on extra pounds that'll be hard to come off in my 30s and 40s but I know it'll happen. I've been 170 before but I've had a lot going that kept me out of the gym so it melted off. I think if I clean up my diet and do what I'm supposed to do I think my best weight will be pretty much the same as you.

But them squats :francis:

I never benched in my life. All push ups, pull ups, sit ups, and cardio.

I'm curious to know now:ohhh:....I seen my brother hit 500 one time.

But he's a short, stocky dude.I'm 6'3 180 with long arms.Benching might not be for me

Baby steps bro.

Just start with light weight and keep going.

With the squat, does your gym have the velcro padding?

That shyt works wonders, fr. Maybe the passing you used isn't as thick as that, but I don't feel nothing with that.

With bench, you really have to keep your form on point until it becomes 2nd nature.

I think bench might be the hardest press to learn.

yeah there's velcro padding and this been over the course of years at different gyms. i think may have neck issues because that ain't normal

i'll definitely hit the flat bench and start with light weight, i'm sure if i applied myself i could gain confidence but i've fallen into a heavy routine with dumbbell presses. complacency kills

and like @fillerguy said with my lack of squats i take an L for not hitting much needed leg muscle groups. same with not benching for my pecs

Make sure you have proper form, retracting your shoulders back, chest up, having your wrists straight, etc.

I fukked up my right wrist bench pressing with bad form. Didn't even feel any discomfort or pain until it got bad.

fukk all that padding or towel shyt when squatting.

Watch videos on where to place the bar (your traps) and your form. After about 2 weeks you won't feel any pain from the bar resting on your traps.
