I don't think you understand how difficult it is to get your foot in the door in media, especially journalism, as a Black person. The people that are typically hired by the Buzzfeed's and Complex's come from backgrounds where they can afford to waste time and money on a journalism degree. These people often go to the elite journalism schools which are given preferential treatment when it comes to recruiting. The few Black people that are in these programs have to work harder and are often given the short end of the stick, at least on campus when it comes to building your resume. You're already behind the 8 ball. Its the reason why there are very few Black people in sports media despite sports being filled with Black bodies. Journalism has a huge diversity problem that the industry chooses to ignore. Its quite ironic that the Buzzfeed's and HuffPo's of the world cover SJW topics and do a complete 180 when it comes to hiring and leveling the playing field.
We can start our own outlets, but without the funding how can we compete? Doesn't matter if the content is good. You need the backing to get it out there. If you don't see it as an issue that Complex got their start by appropriating Black culture and then not giving back by having representation from that demographic, then do you because I can't change your mind.
its cool, we got different perspectives, thats fukkin life. people always have different perspectives. i dont hate you for yours or because i dont agree with it. I took out the time to write to you, cuz your post reflect you a smart nikka and i fukks with you, and i felt like i could i have a discussion with you
i dont really wanna go to back and forth, i dont have the energy for that kind of shyt lol. like you said we both got our own perspectives on shyt, we diff ppl, like i said thats life my nikka, ive lived enough and seen enough to understand that fact, you digg.
now look man, im on that blame the white man shyt too, just not in this particular case you feel me. Im trying to understand your point of view, but i cant get with it.
to me your point of view comes off whiny as fukk, no disrespect.
that "
" were black people, we helpless point of view. and tired of that shyt man. In this particular case w/ complex, media outlets, w.e. the fukk we talking about, not some genarilzed bullshyt. I feel that mentality, in this particular situation in adressing black media platforms and outlets. It sets us back more than white people do.
I know mark eko, the 100, 200, 300, million dollar man, or whatever the fukk he got. He founded complex, he funded to build this complex empire and help build it to what it is today.
My thing and my original argument was that. Complex was never a black only media outlet and platform from the begining. Back then, the scene that i was describing, that new wave. It was looked at as hipster shyt. in 2008, everything that complex would cover was looked at as hipsterish, from the fashion, the music, the blogging, the type of shyt they covered, back in 2008 this shyt was looked at as hipster shyt, it just so happen that in todays times its the norm. Thats what complex did, thats what complex was, you understand?
They were never a media outlet or platform focused on black entertainment only. They also covered indie rock bands, indie underground white artists like The xx for example. They represented for the cool people who was into all that shyt.
The people at complex built complex to be what it is today through quality, presentation, growing with the times, expanding, and hard work.
Its hard for black people, we already fukking know that shyt, we been knew that shyt, we come from fukking slavery my nikka, we come from seggregation, and all that bullshyt. Black outlets dont have funding, ok i feel you. But what black outlets are you talking about? which ones? name them please lol.
In this particular sector, I cant support the whinning, the excuses. I just cant. maybe on some other shyt, that has to deal with our way of life, our struggles, and enviroment and shyt like that. But not this.
I dont even wanna use wshh w. you as an example, cuz i feel you gonna start talking about some other shyt, like its a bad platform that promotes woo, woo, woo. When thats not the point im trying to make.
Ima do it though. You look at wshh right. I was on the shyt in early 2008, everyday after school, watching fight videos, beef videos, rapper vlogs, music videos, bytches twerking, ratchet shyt. Wshh, came from the mothafukkin mudd, no million dollar nikka like mark eko backing it. But nikka its about to be 10 years since the shyt surfaced, and this shyt done became one of our biggest media outlets, whther you liked it or not, whether you agree with there content, representation or not. Why? cuz nikkaz worked hard, nikkaz stayed consistent, they grew with the times, they were orginal, one of the only platforms in 2008, 2009 that gave us constant content, i cant say too much about quality and presentation. But just the fact that they worked hard and built this shyt for almost 10 years, and grew, and payed attention and werent ignorant about that. It made them our biggest platform, in hiphop for hiphop.
My perspective is, if you want it you can get it. Stop complaining.
I aint talking about espn not hiring black people, Wall street journal, or w.e fukking white outlets you wanna focus on. Those are white outlets right? White people aint never gave us shyt, just to give to us and never will. You gotta get out here and get it my nikka. Stop blaming these white folks for not fukkin witchu when you already know that. You either play the game or create your own path and go hard and work hard at it. Or you do both.
