How long did it take you to start making beats you like?

FL Studio is my bytch :win:

grab a four bar drum loop, throw it into Feuity Slicer (Channels>Add one>FL Slicer, click and drag sample)

23w751d.jpg

  1. Top right where it says '4 Beats,' when you drag the sample into Fruity Slicer, it'll originally be like 25 beats, drag that shyt all the way down to 4.
  2. Then right click on that button with the razor, click 'Slice To Beat'
  3. Then run the '4 Beats' up to 8. (Also, barely bring up the ATT/DEC like 10ms to clean up the chop 'clicks').
Go to piano roll, you have four chops, repeat the first two drum chops, add the other two on the 4th measure for the changeup :lawd:..

Find a 4 bar sample, Slice it the same way and play it over the drums.

Q2W3E4R5T6Y is the order of fl slicer notes when you're using just keyboard/mouse

30navis.jpg

the top row of the keyboard becomes a piano for all you 'I miss my triton's 88 keys' cats, in other words, q-w-e-r-t-y are 7 white keys, and the 23 is C#/D#, then 567 is F#/G#/Bb or the black keys. The chops get slightly lagged, so you go into piano roll to realign them.

Then you can take like four 4-bar loops, Slice each one, and then play around like that. Group all the Fruity Slicers together onto one mixer, and add filters or sidechain compress it.

that's the Zen of FL brehs, go fukkin' bananas. :cape:

I've got that shyt down to a science, je suis artiste :blessed::banderas:

I'm pretty sure if you ctrl+z over and over, it'll give you your piano roll arrangement back.

If not, you can copy and paste it :myman:

I know but it's a lot of work if you have your Slicer cloned 4 times.

There is no specific time frame. It's how fast you can understand mixing, picking the right sounds, musical form ecyand just continuing to build everyday. I have a musical background and going from playing an Instrument to production still took time. It took about a year before I was making stuff I liked.

Got myself a sample and sliced it through Slicer. I now have four chops. Do I just go on piano roll and play around with these four chops to create a melody/loop? Then add drums and finish the beat?

yup

I think I usually have around 8 chops though

you can also add the "outside the club" mixer preset and use the sample as a bassline, then sample something else, filter the low end out and play it on top

Damn, it's hard finding samples. How do you go about finding music to sample? I'm out here sampling a random Naruto theme song lmao.

Also, do you just sample a 4-bar loop from edison and transfer it to Slicer? Four bars is basically 16 beats.

my advice is just to listen. i used to buy records by the ass load and just put them on and play and listen. then records started to pile up and i had a bunch of garbage now i will put on youtube or some crate blogs and stream albums. sometimes im looking for a particular sounds like jazz or soul, other times it could be gospel or drum breaks. I know of a lot of artists and musicians so I can look up someone slightly obscure then be referenced to someone they worked with or is influenced by that ive never heard of and i end up in this rabbit hole and im listening to some new albums that ive never heard of and i'll just listen for hours at a time. and i'll make mental notes and come back or bookmark or download.

I just listen to expose myself to whats out there and hear shyt. if you look for something particular its a quick way to burn out then you start to overthink because you might look for a dope piano sample then find some dope horns but you had your mind set on the piano---just listen and take what comes naturally.
