Michallionaire Ent.
Years of practice and improvement, playing around with sounds.
I try bruh but I start everything I make feeling like
then I come back to that shyt like 2 days later and I'm on some
Some people pick it up faster than others but for me a little less than a year. If you wanna get better you just gotta practice, like any other thing you do. Try remaking some of your favorite beats so you can understand the process a little better, read up on music theory and mixing whenever you can, and learn some sound design. Some of the easiest sounds to make are sub basses, 808s, leads, etc. then graduate to pads and plucks/synths eventually.
Just don't force yourself to make beats when you don't want to or else you'll burn yourself out. Whenever you have beat block or don't feel like making anything just read up on whatever I mentioned above.
2 years deep and I still don't make 808s sound like I want them to
My story is similar to yours, except my learning curve didn't take as long. However, I had several mentors, so that very well may've sped up the process.it took me like 3-4 years to master fruity loops i think. started in 05, didnt start making beats I was feeling everytime until like 09-10. Now i can just make decent beats every time out but when I listen back to my older work, I notice I put a lot more effort into those ones than i do now. im too lazy to look for samples since i started my engineering job so its a catch 22
I have a MIDI keyboard, but I prefer clicking in the notes. I know a bit of music theory, but I suck at playing the piano . I'd get monitors first if I were you. Can't be mixing on laptop speakersIm on struggle mode right now famo. For the next 3 or so months its gonna have to be either a decent midi keyboard or some nice headphones and speakers. Ima probably go with the midi for now

I'd recommend KRK Rokit monitors. Great quality for a low price. (search eBay)
And check out my tutorials on YouTube:
I started fooling around with FL Studio and Reason back in like 2010, but I started taking it serious 3 years ago. I just started practicing sampling not too long ago. I was never big on sampling, but now I love it.
Just practice, practice, practice. I watch A LOT of tutorials on YouTube. Mixing and beat making.
