I gotta look it up but I think a white Jew started the the naacp

W E. B Dubois is a polarizing figure. He was a pioneer but at the same time he was Boule/ a protector for white interest which keeps guys like him paid. I kinda felt his "Talented Tenth" mantra.
Not sure if they were jewish but the NAACP was started by the more liberal whites and black leaders. Never a primarily black organization which is different than what most people were led to believe, it was an interracial organization. The original idea for the NAACP was brought forth by The Niagara Movement which did start as a collective of similar minded black leaders in the early 1900s.

I'll probably do a multi part answer bc there's a few thoughts that I have. The first one -There are ideals that I support from Dubois in that he opposed Booker T. Washington's stance on accommodation and white acceptance. Meaning that Washington's idea (The Tuskegee Machine) was that if blacks work hard and elevate themselves they would be more "acceptable" to whites. That blacks should take advantage of learning how to produce their own, farm their own lands,etc... they could gain the respect of whites. Rather than have whites label us a degenerates, we could work to "prove our worth". Sort of like saying, ok.. leave us alone, let us do our thing so that we could progress and the whites will see us becoming more acceptable in their eyes. We can create economic gains for ourselves, but we won't fight against the whites for our rights. As long as we prove that we are "good negroes" then whites will leave us be, so to speak. But, that was disproved because when blacks did gain economic independence, the ability to be profitable, lived separate in our own towns, educated ourselves.. the whites still felt some type of way and destroyed the towns, communities through violence and other methods.

I support the protest mindset of Dubois' because he started the Crisis Magazine which gave black writers an independent resource to express their experiences and opposition to racial issues. In the beginning, Dubois wasn't one to back down on issues despite the personal consequences to himself. He was actually forced to resign from the NAACP because during the Great Depression he encouraged blacks to support other black businesses; the NAACP viewed this as "segregationist" which they were opposed to. I also respect the fact that he provided a platform for the celebration of black culture and identity through art and writing, which would eventually come into play during The Harlem Renaissance.

The NAACP’s founding members included white progressives Mary White Ovington, Henry Moskowitz, William English Walling and Oswald Garrison Villard, along with such African Americans as W.E.B. Du Bois, Ida Wells-Barnett, Archibald Grimke and Mary Church Terrell.

A white lawyer, Moorfield Storey, became the NAACP’s first president. Du Bois, the only black person on the initial leadership team, served as director of publications and research

James Weldon Johnson was the organization's first black president 1920-1930
