A few similarities to Cosby, athough, I fear that just like him, black people would have turned on Dubois for talking respectability politics. The current generation of black Americans have an inability of taking criticism when it comes from our own.
As much as I respect Dubois - he was a colorist.
Whether it's something he wanted to do or not -- he understood the dynamics of skintone.
Back then - like right now - lighter and racially ambiguous is the key to success and admiration in our community.
He also knew his complexion and mixed-race ancestry was his strength and big advantage. He also surrounded himself with men and women of the same skin-complexion class.
l think it would be similar to how it is right now.
