How could Jay Z be the GOAT when he's never made a good song that wasn't about Jay Z?

If probably give it a 3-4 out of 10. It was the first Jay album where there were no great verses. The beats were nothing special. It was a cash grab.
KC had the Prelude which is classic, then a few good songs in the first half. On the whole it was wack - maybe a 5-6. MCHG was just a whole new level of

You didn't think Heaven was dope? Or Nickels and Dimes? The Ross record banged and I liked Jay's flow I think the Beyonce record was smooth too for what it's purpose was. I think MCHG had a lot of average songs that people call trash because it's Jay and we expect more. Like in and of itself there is nothing wrong with the Jay Z - Blue song, but Beach Chair was much better already. Every song on MCHG had a version that Jay had done before that was better. He definitely half-assed that shyt.

i meant album when i said record. jay does not have 3 classic albums, he has one arguable, only off the merrit of it being his best album(RD). everything else is hyped up. there aren't that many classic hip hop albums.

Some of the songs were better than others. I didn't like the Ross record cause I don't like that type of production.
No song on that album will go down as a classic Jay record.

You should have used "A Children's Story" by Slick Rick. Jay has no tracks like that. Hell most rappers have no tracks like that where they aren't in the lyrics of the song at all.

Aquemini is a classic, but it's not held in the same regard as Infamous, Illmatic, Chronic, Paid in Full, etc.
Classics are really more so about consensus amongst the core audience.
I think Atliens and the Diary are the closest to being GOAT contenders. I don't agree that they are, but i can see the argument.

Aquemini is held in higher regard than ATLiens tbh even though I prefer the latter. But tbh that's NY bias to not see any Southern album on that plateau. For the record, Liquid Swords isn't held in the same regard as those albums. I dare anyone to tell me that isn't a GOAT contender.

Idk most people I talk to argue Aquemini is better, the peak of their run musically and conceptually etc.

Let's be serious they're both pretty equal it comes down to preference. I prefer ATLiens. Soul Food is in that convo too for sure and even Southernplaya ain't far behind.

I actually grew up listening to Jay-Z. I witnessed Jay-Z drop classic records, and I was well into high school when Jay-Z started being one of the biggest hip hop stars (Vol 2). I'm a fan of his great music. I was the guy telling y'all that Vol 2 >> 400 Degreez which had people catching feelings. I think Jay-Z is the most consistent rapper of all time.

But Jay-Z has never had a classic album. He's not that guy. I'm sorry if that hurts your feelings. Maybe you wish you were Jay so you'd be fukking Beyonce and you're thinking: 'if I stan Jay, I can be a boss just like him' Life doesn't quite work like that.
