How could Jay Z be the GOAT when he's never made a good song that wasn't about Jay Z?

If he isn't GOAT, then why did they build a statue of him at the playground on Marcy and Lafayette, right down the street from the Marcy houses?

who is determining these classic. Cause outside of the east coast u will rarely ever heard ob4cl or liquid sword as classic/genre defining. Illmatic and doggy style and other album transcended they region

I would argue more people around the country enjoy rd over both those albums, from production to features.

Blueprint and black album had more influence and thoroughness then most albums in hip hop history

You can stop right there. Respectfully breh, I don't give a fukk what someone outside the East Coast thinks about hip hop if they haven't done their homework. I know me saying this is gonna be a thread derail into other coasts getting sensitive and feeling insecure. Let's keep it fukking real here since you brought it up. It didn't have to be brought up but you went there.

I've spent time in New York, LA and Houston. These are some of the biggest contributors to hip hop ever. I'm from Toronto. I don't have much of a bias. If you're dope, you're dope. I grew up listening to Master P and Gangstarr at the same time. My brother was a Cash Money stan in 99. I have a good idea of what each coast has to offer.

Hip hop is in the blood of New York City, and its neighboring cities/states. And they had a headstart like a muhfukka. If you actually know your hip hop, you simply can't avoid Wu's best material. It's clear as day that it's some of the best shyt ever recorded. The East Coast defined hip hop culture before it got to other coasts. So how can you say "yo that East Coast album aint transcend its region." nikka, your region is late. Catch up!

More people around the country prefer Encore to RD. Do you think I give a fukk?

No it isn't. Teenage Love was about Slick Rick? Keep Ya Head Up was about 2Pac? Bonita Applebum was about Q-Tip? Mainstream was about Outkast and Goodie Mob? Burn Hollywood Burn was about Chuck, Ice Cube, and Big Daddy Kane? I could go on and on.

Yes... It was about experiences that they went through or saw close up...... and there was a lot of people that could relate to that.... and half of your list is 80s Hip/Hop, before bravado and fantasy rap...

Most rappers in the 80s and early 90s rapped about their immediate dilemmas, surroundings, experiences, and situations....

Hov just rapped about what he saw and went through and there was a target demographic that could at least somewhat relate, and everyone lived vicariously through the rhymes...

Bottom line is, everybody rapped what was on their mind..... but just because Hov's cautionary tales weren't relatable on your end, doesn't necessarily mean he was just rapping about and for himself.....

Keep ya Head Up is most certainly about PAC.....and who better to make a song like that than a young man that has a crackhead for a mother, a militant black panther step father doing life, and an aunt whom the US constantly tries to extradite for a murder she didn't commit...

He ain't like the queens bridge leprechaun NAS. He don't primarilay write about other people's lives. He writes from experience and his own life.

lmao

the black album had "sexy sexy, ah ha!!!" and that over the top singing on what more can i say, and the eminem joint just off the top. psa was a bit over produced(like you don't know and meet the parents, but not as bad).

the blueprint was a mainstreamish watered down SC stylistically. how can an album have more influence than the album it was directly influenced by?

there's albums that aren't classic that are better than both of these, so no.
