What's the filler on RD?by who?
All those albums have phenomenal songs, but they also have filler. They also all contain radio-attempt songs - some great, some terrible. Classics in the true sense of the word don't have filler and don't dumb their music down for radio
What's the filler on RD?
He just needs to care about rapping. Heaven, Somewhereinamerica, Nickles and Dimes, Jay Z Blue and FUTW were all good records. So was the Ross record. But dude obviously does not care enough for a full album. If he doesn't care, I'd rather that he does not rap.Be furious ghost And c00nza getting sonned sonned by some Cac and instead of placing your hate towards said Cac, send it at the goat
Jayz is the goat due to his real life experiences, I'm not gon dock him for not having a bunch of when he giving up his life at its finest. Now we just need to say fukk that mchg trash and focus for a month and let Ross pick his beats and drop another classic
I know those albums you mentioned have critical acclaim. Rightfully so. They're great albums. But classic? That's a different category. Illmatic and Cuban Linx aren't just great albums - they're classics. It's a different tier.
I've always hated this point of view.
So basically unless an album is as good as Illmatic or OB4CL (which I believe to be the greatest hip-hop album ever) it's not a classic?
It's the same as saying Kobe ain't shyt because he's got five rings and Jordan's got six.
An album can be a classic without having to be one of the five greatest hip-hop albums ever.

I agree with you to a degree. I've always felt the production on RD was not on the level of GOAT contender albums. But it is undeniably a classic and none of those songs are filler. The Clark Kent produced joints.
Aint No nikka
In fact, I could do without Politics As Usual & Regrets, too.
They're not obvious filler, but they're not great songs. They're not on the same level of "Can I Live" or "D'Evils" or "Dead Presidents". They're just not.
The filler on Black Album and Blueprint is even more obvious. But again, it's not "I Know What Girls Like" filler. It's 'this track keeps in line with theme, but the execution is meh' kind of filler.
MCHG was Jay's worst album by a country mile.He just needs to care about rapping. Heaven, Somewhereinamerica, Nickles and Dimes, Jay Z Blue and FUTW were all good records. So was the Ross record. The only reason I kind of agree with you to an extent is because most of Jay career moves on a musical level is money motivated so there's always going to be a little lack of soul / authenticity in Jay's music because he devotes so much time into adapting to whats new ... I can't flat out say he doesn't have classics though .it's not like saying Kobe aint shyt because Kobe is basketball, and this is hip hop. Let's keep the analogies HIP HOP.
as for an album being as good as Illmatic/OB4CL, it's gotta be on that tier or at least really close.
Jay-Z's albums aren't classic like that. Doggystyle is a better album than any Jay-Z album, so it's not just Illmatic/OB4CL. Liquid Swords is also a better album than any Jay-Z album.

I think I gave it a 7 out of 10 when it came out of two listens. I might go lower now. I haven't played anything off it in a long time. But I still think Kingdom Come is his worst. The Prelude cannot make up for that mediocrity.MCHG was Jay's worst album by a country mile.

I could go on and on, but I have a feeling it wouldn't matter, as the op will either deny any are good, or claim they are all about him.

You really think Brooklyns Finest and Coming of age are filler?
Okay so by your logic there's only about ten classic hip-hop albums ever.
