How could Jay Z be the GOAT when he's never made a good song that wasn't about Jay Z?

In order to be the Greatest Rapper of All Times, you have to be diverse in your subject matter. JayZ is not great at all to me, because almost every song can be entitled "Look At Me!" That's why his albums are called 1, 2, 3. He's selling you the same thing over and over again. I am glad that I never bought an album by this dude, especially after hearing "Moment of Clarity," where he admits being a sellout and he called his fanbase dummies who buy simple music. That he freestyles his albums is proof that it takes little effort to make these superficial songs. To me, you can be good, but you aren't great if your subject matter is limited. I don't care how many albums you put out.

When you make a song about something of substance and there is a rapper that you wouldn't call to rhyme on it, that rapper can't be the GOAT. Jayz needs Kanye, Just Blaze, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and Pharrell to cover the fact that he isn't saying anything!

And who was the leading rapper when hip hop turned to good beats and hooks, and nothing raps in between them? Who pioneered that? Who pioneered this, "I'm not a rapper" nonsense? Who made it so that talentless rappers are the norm and standard? Jay-z is the reason that rap sucks! But yall love 'em though

This cat basically said Jay is only good because of of the producers he works with, he has never said anything of substance, and that he is talentless :mjlol:

Some of you dudes have the shyttiest views on rap I have ever heard.

The best part is that you are dead serious too... :mjlol:

Truth hurts, doesn't it?!?! It's easier to caricature my points than to dispute them.

I totally get what you're saying breh, and I half agree with you, but I think you're going overboard. Jay-Z has lots of witty lines. He's said some of the wittiest shyt in the genre's history, which people quote to this day.

"He's alright, but he's not real...."
"We don't believe you, you need more people."

Truth hurts, doesn't it?!?! It's easier to caricature my points than to dispute them.

That's how the Coli be. Most aren't rap fans like that and don't have the background to dispute shyt. So they use gifs/smilies/disappearing acts/deflections to hide.

Don't lump me in with cats like that. I guarantee I have more hip hop knowledge than both of you cats put together. It's just obvious that there is no use discussing anything with cats like that. For him to say Jay-Z is talentless says it all. He is either young and doesn't know any better, or one of those "I only listen to real hip hop" clowns who have this preconceived notion that everything Jay-Z sucks because he had been so successful for so long.

I am not saying he is garbage or talentless (he paved the way for talentless people). I'm saying he is one dimensional and overrated. I know he can rap, but he prefers to rap about nothing and take people's money. I have been saying that for years and then he said it and his fans act like he didn't.

I wanna hit you with the :duck: but fukk it, let's say you're right. You have this knowledge. Knowledge is meant to be shared. You responded to dude out the blue. Why not offer a little knowledge in your rebuttal? If he then responds with dumb shyt, then you know "yeah, he aint worth the time." He may well be one of those 'real hip hop' clowns but you haven't given dude a chance to prove that.

For you to respond first with "u idiot" (which is basically what you said) is questionable.

To say he raps about nothing is grossly inaccurate.

Just because he isn't rapping about the stuff YOU want to hear, doesn't devalue it's actual meaning to nothing.

Take a song like You Must Love Me. He's searching for reasons to why certain people in his life continue to do whatever they can for him, and still value their relationship with him after he has done some unspeakable acts against them in 3 different verses. Basically showing the power of love for another will make one turn a blind eye to almost anything.

Or take a song like Falling. In it he brilliantly speaks on how great the eventual fall is of those in a certain lifestyle. Yeah, it's great to hear about one's rise to power, what they did during their reign, but usually there is only two outcomes that come with that, and in this song, he show that that life isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I could go on, as his catalogue is filled with jewels like this, but if you tell me that these songs are about nothing, either you just can't relate, or you are one of the two examples I mentioned before.
