How could Jay Z be the GOAT when he's never made a good song that wasn't about Jay Z?

Rap is a skill like singing. Jay has the right flows for songs with one exception being "Ha Remix" that I cringe at every time. Also Jays other failure overall is ghetto techno

You need to sound good on the track & Jay does 95% of the time.

Totally agree. Vocal delivery and figuring out how to ride the beat (flow) are the biggest challenges for any rapper, as far as I'm concerned. It's absolutely like singing. Something that "lyricism" nerds refuse to think about, but wonder why people don't bump the rappers they like.

Lyrics can make up for mediocre rap skills like Kanye on college dropout until he developed later on. Same with Rick Ross in terms of content on port of Miami carrying Ross along with production before he stepped up with his voice/flow on trilla.

eh....

Different era. The game had been so watered down and marketing-driven by the time Ye got into it that vocal delivery didn't really matter.

I still don't think lyricism can make up for mediocre rap skills. Ye and Ross had strong marketing/cosigns behind them. Otherwise, they would have never popped.

it's funny because lack of vocal delivery got nas clowned on oochie wally by everyone!!!
Hell even though jigga held it down on renegades....he got clowned because vocally Eminem was better!!!!

if you can't rap like a singer can't hit notes....it's gonna be wack! and people wonder why memphis bleek was always one hit away from a plat plaque?...he sounded like he was always yelling like meek mill imo, lol.

lyrics matter, but a lot of people got it twisted....if Nas penned something for silk the shocker, silk the shocker would always be off beat and a trash rapper!!! lol.

In order to be the Greatest Rapper of All Times, you have to be diverse in your subject matter. JayZ is not great at all to me, because almost every song can be entitled "Look At Me!" That's why his albums are called 1, 2, 3. He's selling you the same thing over and over again. I am glad that I never bought an album by this dude, especially after hearing "Moment of Clarity," where he admits being a sellout and he called his fanbase dummies who buy simple music. That he freestyles his albums is proof that it takes little effort to make these superficial songs. To me, you can be good, but you aren't great if your subject matter is limited. I don't care how many albums you put out.

When you make a song about something of substance and there is a rapper that you wouldn't call to rhyme on it, that rapper can't be the GOAT. Jayz needs Kanye, Just Blaze, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and Pharrell to cover the fact that he isn't saying anything!

And who was the leading rapper when hip hop turned to good beats and hooks, and nothing raps in between them? Who pioneered that? Who pioneered this, "I'm not a rapper" nonsense? Who made it so that talentless rappers are the norm and standard? Jay-z is the reason that rap sucks! But yall love 'em though

I think you have some interesting points. I don't think Jay helped the game with that whole "I'm not a rapper" shyt, not that he was the only 1, but I don't think that was helpful. I also think at times he jumped on trends and that didn't help and was a gateway to people selling out. I don't think he's THE greatest rapper of all time but I do think he's 1 of the greats. It's true he spoke about himself a lot but in doing so he related to the other. Songs like D-evil's or Regrets went deeper than just narcissism. Even a song like Friend Or Foe 98 that is quite relatable even though it's a story, nearly everyone in the street or even in general life been in that situation at some point. I don't think he was just superficial although he certainly doesn't have as a diverse subject matter as some of the other greats.

Oh,so now yall Jay haters wanna say everything he rapped about was too real?versuse the "Bu bu but he wasn't really selling drugs like that yall:whoa:" narrative yall been pushing?....If you believe that, than he is rapping from the perspective of a drug dealer who was really outchea getting it,not Jay who was just a rapper in hawaiin sophie, maybe sold a bag of weed or 2:sas1:

I miss the third person style of rap,but Jay's life was interesting enough, and he was introspective enough it wasn't necessary....Plus it goes against his persona anyway to be anything but self absorbed, and cold blooded:wow:....Even when talking about selling drugs,he questions if he was wrong, but still says ":manny:",he was doing what he had to do.

It would take away from Jay to have empathy, everything about prime Jay,down to his delivery was uncaring:wow:...You missing the greatness of Jay by not taking in his whole persona, you just don't get it op,comparing him to Nas,Common,Cube and Pac pretty much says as much....Jay-Z is a 10/10 of what a dopeboy rapper should encompass.

i don't think that's true.
Aquemini is hailed as a classic because it is, but I don't think I know one person who likes it better than ATLiens.

Them cats were literally aliens, like on another planet creatively and lyrically when they made that album.

I don't care for Outkast, but
A) I prefer Atliens
B) A head I know is an Outkast stan from day one, and he prefers Atliens
