How come Ginuwine didn't become a bigger star?

No he wasn't. Ginuwine doesn't have any album touching 8701 or Confessions. Ginuwine was carried by Timbalands productions. All these cats like Chris Brown are Usher/R.Kelly clones

Confessions is the best album between the two but I Iistened to Ginuwine's first 2 albums just as much. I can't listen to any full Usher albums outside of that one though. 8701 wasn't that great either outside of the singles IMO.

:what:"100% Ginuwine" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "8701"

I listened to Usher's big 3 albums ("My Way", "8701", & "Confessions") during the summer. "8701" is definitely the worst album of the 3, despite probably having the best group of singles.

agreed

I was a kid during this era and i'm from the UK.

I didn't know any Ginuwine songs apart from Pony until I got older. I didn't even know who sang Pony - Ginuwine simply wasn't a star like that.

Meanwhile Usher was the dude with My Way. Usher was like... Backstreet Boys big (almost). Pop Ya Collar, U Remind Me, U Got It Bad all massive songs in the UK.

Truthfully, Sisquo was bigger than Ginuwine.

And I love Ginuwine's music. It has aged the best. It is the most influential. But he didn't have star power like that. He didn't appeal to teenie-boppers like that. He didn't have the Billboard hits.

His music was very RnB. I think he was older. I don't think he dances (does he dance?).

Said the two things i was coming in here to say so...:salute:

nikkas in here arguing shyt that is subjective(who sings better) when this thing really just boils don't to numbers. I've said this forever and i'll say it again...when it comes to anything black in America, black ppl make things popular but white ppl make things successful. Save your hate mail if you disagree, it's all about numbers. When white ppl jump on something popular in black culture the success and popularity goes thru the roof.

Also Usher has always had a POP slant to all his songs at least since the My Way album which catapulted his career. I also would agree with song selection(Usher had a more mackish vibe while Ginuwine came more raw and raunchy initially) and image being a factor (Usher looking and sounding younger and smoother in his vocals than Ginuwine). In my opinion there's literally nothing Ginuwine does better than Usher other than dance, it's just to bad singles don't sell off dancing alone. Ginuwine came with his biggest hit out the gate and didn't have anything even close to it after that, while Usher was cranking out hit after hit...pop type hits at that, ie that crossover game was. :wow::banderas:

End of the day Ginuwine stayed more of an urban star, which is why i suspect nikkas ride with him more and Usher sound had more crossover appeal that would eventually turn him into an international superstar.
This is it. Usher damn near a backstreet boy in terms of successful singless

Yup. They stopped. Not only that. Music videos hit a MAJOR stride between 96 and 98. The shyt that nikkas was doin in 97 with music videos was some other shyt. Which opened the gates for Usher's video to be more cinematic like that. Also as far as overall Bobby brown clone I feel u. But the nikka was rockin the fedora's and gliding across the room n shyt. All that came from what Ginuwine was doin and bringing back in style.

Hype Williams....that era had me feeling like brothas came up to become rich after the million man march struggle was over with all that platinum and mini movie music videos. i was in 5th grade-7th grade and those videos were amazing.

That album was TRASH, the singles were the only good songs on there

:aicmon: Confessions was a monster, fukk you tawmbout?
Is the music better? Not for me. It's a very good album by a RnB/popstar in his absolute pomp. BUt better than The Bachelor?

Nah breh. It doesn't help that some of the singles are In Da Club status.
