There's a reason why the vast majority of independent films are drama, comedies, and horror films.[/quote]

I well aware of everything you stated above. I was responding to asshat above who said the book was going to end, because Whites weren't buying. Well shyt shut the fukk up and go buy it. You want kids to have Black superhero's to read about/look up to, buy the damn book, you don't have to be a comic book reader to purchase comic books, you only have to be aware of the the existence of said book. Crying racism because Black comics don't sell....and then not going to purchase them yourself is hypocritical(Still talking about him) . But getting mad at marvel/dc/image because Black comics don't sell, while Blacks don't give a shyt about purchasing them is just crazy.

Yeah you're right that people have to support certain things in order to get more of it.

I will say though that people can only buy things that they know exist. Like I said before the retailers are part of the problem also. Marvel and DC do a piss poor job of marketing their books to black folks (black creators have LONG complained about that) and because comics are primarily sold in specialty shops they're harder to get a hold of. The total market for comic books has been shrinking consistently for a while now.

With Digital comics there's an opportunity for chang though. Anybody that has any sort of digital device can now purchase and read comics. The big publishers still have to do a better job of making black people aware of their product.

Marvel and DC seem to want to get black folks money without actually having to deal with any black people (be it in the creative process or in the marketing).

Chronicle cost $12 million dollars to make, had the backing of a major production studio, and was written by Max Landis (The Son of John Landis). While it's not a blockbuster budget that's hardly LOW budget and sure as hell isn't an independent film. That movie doesn't get made if a couple of black creators pitch it with blacks in the lead role.

Makes me wonder why instead of going to white folks to fund projects why not black? Hell maybe even Oprah might want a slice of the superhero bread, but I doubt she would do just any character maybe Static or Black Panther.

Doesn't have to be superhero flashy special effects type of film. Somebody like Night Thrasher, for example, could be done going the indie route whether as a short, web-series, or full length. Hell, if I could get the rights and get the costumes needed, I would definitely put together a Night Thrasher series of shorts.

Night Thrasher is owned by Marvel and they're never going to make a movie about that character. They're also never going to allow someone else to make a movie about him.

You can't talk about going the independent route then mention someone owned by Disney.

Plus even if you did make a low budget Night Thrasher film you'd still have to get it distributed....and no putting it out online or straight to DVD isn't good enough.

You can't go to anybody with Black Panther because Marvel owns it. You can't just make movies about shyt that other people own (unless it's a fan film that will generate no profits).

Oprah probably wouldn't back a Superhero film and Tyler Perry probably won't either. The tastes of the people who have that kind of money matters just as much as the race of those people.

Oprah's not going to produce anything she doesn't "GET". That's why she sticks to her black misery porn movies.

Tyler Perry actually does like Sci-Fi but seems to have no interest in making films like that. Tyler Perry has a formula and he's pretty adamant about sticking to it (especially when it's spending his own money).

Honestly your best bet would be to try someone like Russell Simmons, but he's another person who doesn't get the genre and would warp it into some crazy marketing bullshyt.

As far as distributing on the indie route, we do screenings, film festivals, conventions, make our own dvd/blu-rays, or online.

color has nothing to do with it, it's facial features

his facial features aren't black either unless you're still stuck on the fact they drew him with some lips. there's real actual black people in the DCU, no reason to try to claim everyone, friend.

why does the voice actor have to do with the way the character looks, James Earl Jones voiced Darth Vader, Simba was voiced by a cracker

Why don't the other white characters have full lips then, its obvious quit playing, compare Green Lantern's lips to lex and the Harvey Dent Character
models, I bet you their similar, where all the other white characters don't have lips
