typically tough environments produce the best art since you can draw and capture moments most have never seen :yeshrug:

With that being said, Baltimore is a hell hole.

I stayed downtown (Not out in the hoods)
at the crown plaza.

that city is fukked up. Office buildings with blown out windows, they was doing construction at 10pm jack hammer going crazy. Huge corner lot with trash and mattresses in it. i saw roaches in the hotel lobby bathrooms. I saw a couple heroin needles. Staying in the business district I saw absolutely no one that looked like they had business to conduct. No office workers just nikkas hanging outside in the middle of the week looking like poverty

I am from DC and nobody here considers it the south and no outsiders consider it the south either.

This is because todays/younger people have skewed perceptions on what the South-Upper South is/was due to various modern factors

Also, I think the level of relative investment in a city's economy determines how much is put into entertainment, Cause entertainment is a form of marketing that drives tourism among other things. So economic investment and investment in the entertainment sector go hand in hand.

If whoever runs shyt had an interest in developing maryland as a top international tourist destination, labels would be signing acts from b'more and all of a sudden flagship rappers would start popping up. DC I can't really see it being done en masse, cause it's a federal city. It's a tourist hotspot already so it doesn't need marketing. Plus it's a national security risk.

shyt that might be why the DMV area artists don't get signed in the first place. The federal capital of a country is the last place you wanna go outta your way to attract a wanton influx of people. LMAO go to DC during July 4th and try to drive outta there regular and see what happen :mjlol:

:ehh: Never thought about it this way but it makes sense

That’s a huge reason why NY rappers get so much hype, proximity to the money

I never thought of like that either but it makes a lot of sense....NYC for example was in complete shambles as far as infrastructure during the inception and golden era of hip hop....the best music is rooted out of some type of struggle or strife especially economically...Memphis and New Orleans are prime examples as well..

I’m in DC 5-7 times a year cause I have people there. Their accent to me come off as a mix of country and east coast.

Do you think Chicago cats in your opinion sound more country?

Chicago fa sure and St Louis...that’s mostly cause they descend from the Deep South where the accent/tone is distinct and thicker....DC accent is distinct but not on that level...Even though I have heard Chi brehs who almost mirror the DMV accent like King Von and the homie LARmovement

I got a homie from East Stl, him and his brother you would swear they where from Memphis straight up...

From my observations, the Upper South doesn't create GENRES of music like the DEEP SOUTH. Deep South is the roots of American music but the Upper South has produced plenty of legendary musicians throughout/within those DEEP SOUTH originated forms.

I see what your saying and it probably has to do with economics ...Upper South has always had access to industry on all levels on top of being surrounded by plenty of universities/colleges....
